Team Sweeps Division III Title at USL National Tournament in Columbus, Ohio May 31, 1999 by Vinca Swanson - Captain 1999 Northwest Squad The Women's National Lacrosse Tournament was held over Memorial Weekend in sunny Columbus, OH. Like every year the Northwest team scrapes together some money and heads out to play East Coast teams in the hopes of turning a few wondering heads our way. A crack team of excellent players was formed immediately after PNLA and had practiced together only a couple of times before entering the games this weekend. Game results as follows: |
| Saturday | Sunday | Monday |
| vs Ontario1 7-2 | vs Central2 10-6 | vs Colorado1 6-4 |
| vs Midwest2 10-1 | vs New England3 13-2 | - |
As anyone can tell from the scores and who we played, there was no single moment of success, rather a series of conquests each leading to a higher level of play. Though the National tournament is traditionally set up like a round robin, the games coincidentally graduated to a kind of finals against Colorado, who was also undefeated up until we played them. At the very beginning of the first half of all the games, we were able to set our own tone by scoring at least the first goal and securing a status of confidence which stayed with us throughout the game.
Each player had distinctive qualities and styles that made them outstanding in the field. At the same time each one us recognized the strengths of our teammates enabling us to create wonderful scoring opportunities and very wise decisions on defense. It was a great, great time in the sun for the Northwest! Way to go Northwest Women!!
