Merge 2000
Dec 31, 1999
11:39pm Its
dark and raining out. The dawn of a
new millennium approaches. You
think to yourself, Will the stock market crash?
Will my cable go out? Will
waste management be a thing of the past?
Fear grips you like an angry monkey.
You ponder, What will happen in the year 2000?

OK, so nothing happened. Not
anything, not anywhere. All that
worrying for nothing. But lo,
whats this? Something did need a
Y2K upgrade and it was your lacrosse team.
In January of 2000, members of the Laxon Lacrosse Club and the Redhook
Lacrosse Club voted to a trial merge of the two entities.
What emerged from this vote was a stronger, more committed and
enthusiastic team dedicated to the development of its own skills AND the
development of growing lacrosse in the Northwest.
ReLax
Laxon
and Redhook were the 2nd and 3rd teams to sprout out of
the mud in the Northwest. Between
these two teams they combine over 10 years of club playing lacrosse.
Both teams have had great successes individually over the years.
In 1998, Redhook handed the Seattle Womens team its only club loss
of the year at the PNLA tournament and were narrowly defeated by them in the
final. In 1999, Laxon proudly
brought home the division II title from the Western States tournament.
As a merged team, ReLax boasts players who have attended such schools as
Syracuse U., Univ. of Pittsburgh, Berkeley, Johns Hopkins, Univ. of Vermont,
Ohio Wesleyan, William and Mary College, and locally at UW, Western Washington
Univ., Whitman, and UPS. We are
also home to a world cup player, a Canadian National team member, and a former
Olympian! We have trained outside
athletes from ultimate frisbee, field hockey, soccer, and rowing.
Members of the squad have been consistent attendees at the national
tournament, playing with both the northwest team and outside regional teams as
well.
Seven of our members are NW Lacrosse Development members, including the league
Vice President/Scheduler and the Director of Referees. We are actively involved in the governing and development of
this league and have a hand in all issues relating to womens lacrosse in the
northwest. Many of our members are
rated lacrosse referees (7) and many (10) have coached lacrosse at all levels,
from college teams down to middle school teams.
Our players are a unique but cohesive group of women. Some women have played for over 10 years and some have just
picked it up in the last couple of years. We
have moms on the team, and players who are practically still kids themselves.
The core members of this team remain fiercely competitive and committed to
improving game skills and concepts. But we are also committed to having fun.
Our Redhook brewery sponsorship enables us in this commitment!
We welcome new players to come join us at a practice or the pub sometime.
We are committed to growing lacrosse as a sport, and in light of this we
support the league in developing a B Team for new
players to learn skills. So
whatever youre playing ability, give us a call to join the best new team of
the millennium!
