Bellevue 7 - Nathan Hale 4

Bellevue Recap: Bellevue woke up in the second quarter and began finding the net.  The discovery of midfield offense complemented Matt Stanley in goal and the rest of the stingy defense and afforded Bellevue their first win in two years.

Eastside 15 - Nathan Hale 6

Eastside Recap: The boys in black showed they aren't anywhere near done in 2001 as they came out on fire with 7 first quarter goals!!  Brady Lynch got things going with an open net goal off of a great ride.  Nathan Hale pounced right back, but it was all Eastside after that.  Matt Sinkula dominated face-offs in the first quarter going 8 for 10 and made some ridiculous looks to the crease.  If not for several point blank saves from Hale's Ryan Garret, Sinkula would have had 7 or 8 assists.  As it was he finished with 4.  Evan Castiglia notched his first career hat trick- all in the first quarter!!!  He later added another and an assist for a 5 point day.  Eastside lead 11-3 by half and the defense did well to snuff any Raider ideas of a comeback.  Everyone got to see time by the 4th quarter.  Two big keys for Eastside: no penalties and winning the groundballs 74-30!

Eastside: Castiglia E. 4g 1a Harty C. 3g  Lynch B. 3g  Sinkula M. 1g 4a Andrews J. 2g 1a Twining J. 1g  McCann S. 1g  Birchler R.  1a

Maple Valley B 4 - Roosevelt 3

Maple Valley B Recap: Thanks to the Roughriders for one of the toughest games of the season.  Maple Valley started early in this battle to go up 2-0 in the first quarter but the Roughriders wouldn't have any of it keeping the game too close until the final quarter when Maple Valley scored it's final goal and was able to hold on in some very tense defensive moments.  Congrats to Garret Macklin on his first two goal game and to Nate Hale who has scorred one goal in each of his last four games.  Thanks to the Roughriders for a great game and the long haul out to The Valley.

Maple Valley B: Macklin . 2g Hale N. 1g Lindeman C. 1g

4/26

Roosevelt 3 - Maple Valley B 4

Roosevelt Recap: What started off as a rumble became a close, tough game marked by lots of body checks.  The young Riders continue to improve with each match. Injuries to Mark Hammond and other key personnel slowed our comeback attempt in the second half.  Tony Maack was outstanding in goal again.  Great defensive performances were turned in by Kurt Preuss,Rick Martell-Scott and John Arne.  Offensive leadership was provided by Sam Harlow, Alex Lee and Pat Sjoberg, our leading scorer.  A game the Riders can be proud of!

Roosevelt: Sjoberg P. 2g Harlow S.  2a Lee A. 1g

Panthers Lax Club 6 - Franklin 4

Panthers Lax Club Recap: Tight game from begining till the end. Panthers got down early and had to dig our way back. Great game by Franklin's Vu. Panthers Coaches award goes to Nick Heilbrunn for a great game on D and James Bangasser for carrying the team with 4 goals and an assist.

Bellevue 7 - Maple Valley A 9

Bellevue Recap: In a game in which most of the scoring came off of broken plays, Maple Valley connected a couple more times than Bellevue.  Again Bellevue could not take advantage of the few extra man opportunities they were given.  It was a tough but clean game played by both sides.

Bellevue: abriel M. 1g Deal B. 3g 1a Young A . 3g 1a Moore-Walker B.  1a

Curtis 7 - Burien 6

Port Angeles 4 - Bainbridge JV 6

Port Angeles Recap: A beautiful day for lacrosse at Bainbridge.  The young riders jumped out to a 2-0 lead against a talented and athletic Bainbridge JV squad. Bainbridge however was able to answer with 3 goals before the end of the half.  A scoreless third quarter was followed by the Riders tying it up early in the fourth. Bainbridege made another three goal run midway through the final period and although the Riders tried to come back late, the Bainbridge goalie was determined to keep the ball out of the net. Fun game. Thanks to Adam Smith and two other BI "A" players for officiating the game. They did an outstanding job of keeping the game flowing and under control.

Port Angeles: James S. 2g  Thomas K. 2g

Maple Valley A 9 - Bellevue 7

Maple Valley A Recap: Bellevue has to be the tough luck team of the year, losing another close game.  They played well enough to win, but just could not quite get it done despite a great team effort.  MV's offense was led by Brian Johnson and Travis Cornelison who combined for 6 goals on 13 shots and two assists.  The defense was led by Weston Butt and Adam Running.  Junior Nick Johnson won 4 of 5 on faceoff.

Port Angeles 11 - Bainbridge B 7

Port Angeles Recap: Two playoff bound teams locked horns in a match important in determining home field advantage for the playoffs. Highly charged games like this get a little sloppy at times.  Definitely exciting, however.  The Riders got on the board first and were able to get up by two, and from there on Bainbridge would close and we would be fortunate answer and keep the lead. There were many plays well executed by both teams and both goalies had solid games.  B division playoffs should be worth watching.

Vashon 7 - Roosevelt 1

Vashon Recap: Vashon and Roosevelt had a well-played and classy lacrosse game. Vashon players were particularly impressed with Roosevelt's good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game of lacrosse, as it is meant to be played. The game did not include trash talk, only a few  penalties for both sides, no "running up the score." We are glad to have Roosevelt in the league and anticipate that their program will only grow stronger.

Roosevelt Recap: Good game with good weather.  Thanks to Vashon for making the trip.  Vashon is sprited and well coached.  Vashon middies played very well.  We Roughriders could muster little offense until the second half. We are improving with each game and really having fun.  Special thanks to Coach MacFarlane this week.

Franklin 6 - Port Angeles 11

Franklin Recap: Great game by Franklin and Port Angles.  Tough and physical game from the start of the whistle.  Always a pleasure to play P.A when we get the chance.  Also congratulation to Howell Glade for score the first goal of the season for defense and for first score from a goalie on a Gillman from end to end.  Look forward for the rematch,  should be a barn burner........

Eastside 5 - Mercer Island 10

Eastside Recap: Eastside came out well in the 1st quarter, although failing to capitalize on a few key transitions.  The second quarter proved fatal as MI scored two quick goals and extended to 7-2 by half.  Eastside started the second half man-up but began a string of several unforced turnovers as the Islanders began to rattle Eastside's offense.  Eastside managed a couple late goals, but Mercer Island clearly outplayed the team in black.  Justin Patterson played well in net despite the 10 goals against.

Eastside: Lynch B. 3g 1a Sinkula M. 2g  Harty C.  2a VanNostrand K.  1a

4/20

Port Angeles 11 - Franklin 6

Port Angeles Recap: Great lacrosse game as it is every time we play Franklin.  The Quakers definitely came to play and almost caught the Riders a little over confident.  A physical, skillful and hard fought game.  Franklin's excellent off ball movement had us looking around for most of the first 2 quarters.  We were fortunate to get it together at the end of the second quarter and take a 4-3 lead into half. Although we were able to extend in the second half, the game was much closer then the score would indicate.

4/20

Port Angeles JV 7 - Franklin JV 2

Port Angeles Recap: PA JV vs Franklin JV.  Another great game for the youngsters on both teams.  Franklin has great speed but we were able to play good position defense and control the ball on offense.  Capped a great evening of lacrosse in sunny Port Angeles.

Lakeside 6 - Bainbridge A 14

Lakeside Recap: As the immortal Rick Flair would so eloquently state, "To be the man, you've got to beat the man...Woooh!"  Bainbridge came to play and tagged Lakeside with an 8-1 half time lead.  The Lions played well in the second half, but the dammage was done.

Bellevue 5 - Overlake 6

Bellevue Recap: Our stingy defense was back, but our offense had trouble testing the Overlake goalkeeper after the first quarter.  Many penalties by both teams slowed the game, making it hard for either team to gain momentum.  The Bellevue coaches pulled out all the stops near the end to try to get a tying goal, to no avail.

Bellevue: Young A. 2g Peterson R. 2g abriel M. 1g

4/18

Port Angeles JV 13 - Nathan Hale JV 8

Port Angeles JV Recap: Port Angeles JV vs Hale JV. The young Riders got their first ever win as a JV program. We are starting to find out what it takes to play some offense. Many players scored their first goals. A beautiful day for lacrosse at Lakeside. Thanks for the use of the field.  Thanks to a Hale for clean and remarkably well played JV game. Both teams handled the ball very well, ran their offenses and came up with some great plays. On the other side of the ball, we both played good position defense with accurate and controlled stick checks.  Both teams have a lot to learn, but with youngsters like this starting to pick up the game, lacrosse is certainly flourishing in Washington.

4/17

Eastside 10 - Bellevue 4

Eastside Recap: Despite missing 10 players for various reasons, the 13 guys suited in black played a very smart, ball control game for the most part and were able to fend off an energetic Wolverine squad.  Eastside jumped to a 6-0 lead before some penalties and sloppy defense gave Bellevue some momentum.  Bellevue scored the first of the 3rd quarter to cut to 6-3, but that is as close is they would get. Seniors Matt Sinkula and Brady Lynch had outstanding games.  Ryan Birchler and Scott McCann played admirably considering both had to play out of position.  Eric Lam and Justin Patterson cleared the ball superbly.  A good overall game for the men in black.

Lakeside 9 - Overlake 3

Lakeside Recap: A little post Spring Break sloppyness, but solid play by Ian Redman, Gramer Gillin and Matt Miller carried Lakeside to the 9-3 victory.  Redman had the prettiest goal of the year, literally faking his D man so badly that he had his back to Redman when he scored.  Miller added another goal from the D end.  Everybody played once again.

Roosevelt 4 - Nathan Hale JV 3

Roosevelt Recap: Thanks to Hale for a great game - our first win!  The game was fun and a bit of a reunion for alumni of the North Seattle youth league team.  The teams were very evenly matched and the Roughriders had to come from behind to win.  There were many outstanding plays at middie, attack and defense - a good all around game for the first victory.

Maple Valley B 2 - Port Angeles 9

Maple Valley B Recap: Port Angeles fields a very skilled team with alot of size and skill.  Maple Valley played one of it's better games of the season for the first three quarters holding Port Angeles to only a few goals but in the end the experience and skill of Port Angeles prevailed.  Congrats to Port Angeles for a hard fought game.

Maple Valley B: Hale N. 1g Macklin . 1g

Vashon 3 - Bainbridge B 18

Vashon Recap: The score at half was5-1. Then everything that could go wrong did go wrong for Vashon in the 2nd half. BI B beat Vashon in every respect. We did not keep up with BI B. BI B's first midfield poured it on through the 4th quarter, with #19 scoring a hat trick in the 4th quarter alone. Nice win for BI B.

Port Angeles 9 - Maple Valley B 2

Port Angeles Recap: The Maple Valley players, coaches and parents are to be commended for the efforts they put in to "rehabilitate" their field. Conditions were excellent. If the weather gives them a break the field should be good for the rest of the season. Not so for the Riders play.  Maple Valley won the psychological battle in the first few minutes of the game and we didn't get our composure back until late in the fourth. Not a good victory. Next week back to the two F's, focus and focus.

Eastside 2 - Bainbridge A 9

Eastside Recap: Bainbridge showed Eastside how it takes a TEAM effort to win ball games.  Eastside was content to stand around and watch a few play well.  Despite giving up 9 goals, the defense played fairly well.  Justin Patterson made 14 saves and John Trenkamp helped frustrate one of the league's top scorers in Adam Smith.  Trenkamp scored another goal himself on a blistering man-up shot.

Port Angeles 15 - Curtis 2

Port Angeles Recap: Thanks to Curtis for comming over and bringing the sunshine with them. The heavy rain that fell on PA all day stopped at game time and the sun started to dry up the few minor swimming pools that dotted the field. The Riders were fortunate to score early and then post 6 more goals to finish the first period. Scott Cline led the Riders with 4 goals and an assist, and a week in China didn't seem to affect Ryan Weed as he collected a hat trick and an assist. Balanced scoring from all mid and attack lines, and a fast break goal from defenseman Jim Baumstark completed the scoring. Outstanding "D" from all players and the ability to sweep the field of ground balls was the real key to the game. We look forward to to our next game with Curtis on their turf.

Maple Valley B 1 - Panthers Lax Club 6

Maple Valley B Recap: Another fine meeting between the Panthers and the Vandals in the sun belt of the N.W., Maple Valley.  After a close loss to the Panthers last week, Maple Valley was looking for a quick turn around and upset.  The Panthers would have none of it.  The Panthers struck first a few minutes into the game and Maple Valley answered shortly thereafter.  Going into halftime the defensivve battle was tied at 1-1.  Midway into the third quarter the Panthers scored twice to take the lead at 3-1.  Again, a defensive battle insued, and again, late in the fourth quarter, the Panthers struck with two more goals.  Final score 6-1.  Congratulations to Nate Hale (who has been told all season that he does have a left hand) who scored his first left handed goal.  Thanks for making the long trip and congrats to the Panthers!

Maple Valley B: Hale N. 1g

Maple Valley A 8 - Eastside 9

Maple Valley A Recap: Great win in double OT Eastside!  MV found out that it's tough to win when outscored 5-0 in the first half. The Vandals gradually closed the gap, trailing 7-3 after three.  MV then outscored Eastside 5-1 in the 4th to force overtime.  Both teams had their chances, but Eastside finally put it away in the second OT  period on a fast break 1 on 1 with the goalie after winning a loose ball battle at midfield.  Brian Johnson led the offense with 6 goals and 1 assist, while Adam Running and Weston Butt anchored the defense.  Travil Cornelison (1g, 2a) was 6-2 on face-offs, and goalie Mark Louvier had 11 saves, several from point blank range.

4/6

Eastside 9 - Maple Valley A 8

Eastside Recap: Double OT Thriller!!!  Eastside led 5-0 at the half thanks in big part to freshman Jack Andrews.  Andrews began to come into his own netting 3 goals and an assist all in the first half.  The offense contolled the ball and Eastside seemed in control of the game.  The teams traded goals in the 3rd and the 4th quarter began with Eastside up 7-3.  Matt Sinkula scored a sweet goal off a feed from Conor Harty a couple minutes into the 4th to put Eastside up 8-3, but hold everything, this game was far from over.  Brian Johnson almost single handedly kept Maple Valley in the ball game scoring 6 goals and an assist on the night.  After a 3 goal spurt Maple Valley cut the lead to 8-6.  With 45 seconds left, Johnson scored again to cut the lead to 8-7.  Maple Valley immediately won the face-off and Johnson scored again with 21 seconds left.  Could this really be happening..it was Eastside's worst nightmare having let two 5 goal leads slip away.  Both teams had their chances in the first OT.  Eastside too

Curtis Recap: Thanks for a great game Panthers...  This was a true Lacrosse game, both teams were spread out on offense and ran some good plays.  And on the defensive end, both teams played very tough with few penalties, and the big hits were left out all together.

Burien 11 - Roosevelt 2

Burien Recap: Bitter cold conditions for this game.  We played well, keeping the ball moving and working the offense.  We didn't go for the hits, and our play is improving.  I think we are letting our sticks do the talking and not our mouths for once.

Roosevelt 2 - Burien 12

Roosevelt Recap: Good hard game.  Burien's middies were fast and great at the ground balls.  Roughrider offense is sparking, but not on fire.  The score doesn't reflect great defense by Preuss, Martell-Scott, Valenzuela and Maack.  Some cheap ones snuck in, but Burien clearly outplayed us.

Vashon 6 - Franklin 10

Vashon Recap: Congrats to Franklin, as they continue to improve. In the end, Vashon's 14 couldn't keep up with Franklin's dozens. Again, Vashon suffered from missing four of our critical players, including two from our first middie line. However many we have, we do play with heart.

Eastside 9 - Nathan Hale 6

Eastside Recap: Beautiful day for lacrosse! Good clean game, only 6 penalties combined.  Eastside got off the snide and notched their first win of the year!!!  Game started very slowly as both keepers played well and no one could find the net.  Eastside notched the only goal of the first half, a first quarter tally by Jimmy Twining.  Nathan Hale came out and tied the game quickly in the third, but Eastside finally found their stroke and a 6 goal explosion in the third helped push to a 7-2 lead.  But Hale battled back, scoring 3 goals inside the first 3 minutes of the 4th to cut to 7-5.  Eastside regrouped and a man-up goal helped push the lead back out.  Conor Harty had a big day finding the back of the net three times and dishing an assist.  Matt Sinkula dominated faceoffs and dished out two more assists.
