Woodinville Earns First Title In Program History, Downs Sammamish 10-7 VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

The two undefeated teams of Division II were destined to meet in this year's championship game.  Both teams come into the game with high powered offenses.  The first two minutes were a back and forth transitions as both teams attempted to create an offensive possession. Sammamish tuned the ball over allowing Woodinville's JD Chapman to rip a shot past the Sammamish "C" team goalie Morgan White, who was brought up during the playoffs.  On the next Sammamish possession several of the Totems shots were blocked by Falcon goalie Dalton Combs.

Sammamish Head Coach Tyler Farrar pre-game commentsSammamish appeared timid on offense, finding it difficult to get any rotations and off ball motion.  The Totems offense utilized Tyler Wright at the attack and allowed him to create, however they still turned the ball over.  It allowed for another goal by Woodinville when Chapman found Evan Schnitzius off a pick to give Woodinville a 2-0 lead, but that was short-lived.  Immediately, Matt Young ignited his team after winning the faceoff, drove down field and finished.  The Falcons had a slight lead 2-1 at the end of the first.

The game looked to develop into a defensive battle.  Sammamish pushed transition with Neil Hones clearing and scoring to even up the score.  Woodinville started to draw penalties sending three men into the box as the defense went into a three man triangle.  Sammamish failed to capitalize and turned the ball over.  Woodinville killed the penalty and the healthy Colter Clinch drove from behind and scored on a high shot.  Momentum was with the Falcons as Chapman snuck a bouncer past the keeper from the wing, pushing their lead by two. The Totems were quick to snap the momentum with Brian Headland scoring unassisted and timeout call to boot.  Action settled for some time.  Totem long pole Sam Chapman was playing extremely well forcing turnovers and clearing the ball himself several times.  The other Chapman, JD got another feed from behind and found the sweet spot on the bouncer, capping a hat trick.  However, Hones made sure to keep the game close finishing another unassisted goal.  The Falcons led 5-4 at the halfway mark.

The game became stagnant for most of the third quarter as strong defensive work from both teams kept the ball out of the net. After a Falcon timeout, Woodinville settled the ball and Keaton House fed the cutting JD Chapman for his fourth goal of the night. Sammamish got a big blow going two men down on an unnecessary roughness and offsides call.  It gave Falcon freshman Daniel McKee his first goal of the night and Woodinville led 7-4.  It appeared to kill Sammamish's energy, however on their next possession Tyvan Schmidt recognized a hole in the defense and scored a low to high ripper.  Sammamish continued with the face-off wins, but poor offensive decisions led to turnovers.  The wheels started coming off the bus for the Totems as long stick defender Clemens Mitchell ran through the Sammamish defense and scored. Wright, held pointless foe the night cleared the ball and beat three defenders and scored a high bouncer.  The score at the end of the third quarter was 8-6, Woodinville with the lead.

Despite the tough play from Sammamish's Chapman, the defensive mark ups foundered.  JD Chapman fed Clinch for another low-high ripper, extending the lead by three.  Woodinville goalie Combs continued to make great saves and outlets.  After a hard ride Woodinville fed a wide open JD Chapman who turned into a huge pain train hit.  However, it did not ignite the Totems for a comeback.  With time ticking away Sammamish felt the pressure coming and moved Wright into the 1:4 formation.  Sammamish held the ball and called a timeout with three and half minutes to play, down 9-6.  With less than a minute to play Hones nets a goal, a hat trick for him.  However it was too little too late, Woodinville wins their first state championship in program history 10-7.  After the game head coach Gavin Molitor was treated with a team "gatorade bath" in celebration. Congratulations Woodinville on an undefeated season.
