Recap of National Tournament:
The Northwest Regional Team recently returned
from the National Tournament in Pennsylvania. With
girls from both Washington and Oregon, the regional
team was a great opportunity to watch a play some
great lacrosse. The regional team consisted of
seven Oregon girls, ten Washington girls, and two
great coaches. Sisters Danna and Nikki Beckwith,
Meghan Colkitt, Bonnie Cordoza, Liza Gilmore, Kelsey
Lake, Kathleen Minor, Kristina Nance, Maggie Pettit,
Kate Phillips, Jackie Spencer, Jen Utley, Jessica
Verrilli, Leslie Walker, and Lauren Watts dominated
the field. Our two awesome goalies were Kelly
Nakata and freshman Jamie O'Brien. Tina Eide and
Robin Hartman were the best coaches anyone could
have asked for.
Leaving Seattle Thursday afternoon, the
Washingtonians finally arrived at their hotel and
got some rest around 2:00am Eastern Time. That's
pretty good compared to the Oregon girl's flight
east. Missing their connection in Seattle, the
girls finally arrived in Pennsylvania Friday
morning. The next day, Friday, everyone was up
around noon. Packing into the two vans and
expedition, we drove to Lehigh University. The 3
hour practice was a great time to get to know each
other both on and off the field. An hour after
practice and a few wrong turns, we arrived at
Wagmen's, a huge organic Costco. It was amazing,
with every type of food or item that you wanted.
After a relaxing first day, most of the team had a
good night sleep.
Ready and anxious the next morning for the 9:30
game, we headed over to the fields. The team played
three tough games, but made it through. The first
game was close against Central 1. The next game, at
1:30 was good competition against Mid Atlantic 6.
The third game on Saturday was another close loss to
Upper Atlantic 6. Although we didn't finish the day
with a win, we all learned a lot from competing with
and against better players. Saturday night we had
the opportunity to watch the U19 game versus the
High School All Stars. It was a great opportunity
to watch some talented lacrosse players compete.
Everyone was up bright and early Sunday for our
8:00am game against Great Lakes 1. Our last game,
against Mid Atlantic was definitely our best and we
came out with a win. Improving both individually
and as a team, everyone had a great time. The
National Tournament was great competition for all 36
lacrosse teams. It was an incredible overall
experience.by:
