Western Washington University Lacrosse Plays On
As many of you know, the WWU Lacrosse
Club was temporarily expelled from the PNCLL for the
2003 lacrosse season. The reason for this expulsion
was failure to appear at the mandatory scheduling
meeting held each year by the league. Although this
is a setback to the 2003 Western Lacrosse season, it
has not in any way affected the continued existence
of a WWU Mens Lacrosse team. The team has been
active this Fall, practicing three times a week, as
well as attending the Chico State Tournament
November 2nd and 3rd. We have
many returning players, and an outstanding group of
freshmen.
The Western Washington team
representatives have been in contact with Dan
Wishengrad and Josh Barbour about being readmitted
into the league for the 2004 season. They have been
very cooperative and have said there is no reason
that WWU should not be allowed back, barring that
they attend the mandatory meeting and adhere to the
PNCLL by-laws. This is very good news for the future
of WWU Lacrosse, and Western has reorganized to
ensure that there are no violations in the future.
The Western captains have been actively
scheduling games for the 2003 season with both PNCLL
teams and local mens Club Teams. Western does not
currently have a permanent head coach, but is in the
process of finding one. Prospective WWU attendees
with questions about the program can contact the
team representatives through the WALAX website, and
are encouraged to do so. WWU looks forward to
playing Lacrosse in the PNCLL next year and beyond,
and thanks Dan Wishengrad, Josh Barbour, and
Walax.com for their continued cooperation.
