After
talking with Greg Hill, head coach of the Warriors, it became evident
where the newest hotbed of Lacrosse has developed. Struggling with
some of the same issues as the rest of Lacrosse in Washington, such as
coaching, organization and volunteers, the growth is still phenominal.
Hills one assistant is Pete White. Last season they had 19 kids on the
team from 4 area high schools (Sehome, Bellingham, Lynden, Ferndale) this
season they will draw from more schools. Depending on the turnout of
both players and coaches, Whatcom will either have a one Varsity B team or
a Varsity B and a JV team. In order to had a JV team a new head coach
would have to get involved as well.
Parents of
underclassmen at Sehome have stated that many kids from Sehome alone will
be coming out for lax after football is over. Needless to say that is the
first step in development of great athletes into Lacrosse fanatics as we
can all attest.
With the
shortage of coaches, starting the youth in Bellingham has been slow but
steady. With the few folks that are involved also dealing with new
families and other life-changin events getting the younger kids started
may be Herculean without more help.
The growth
of Lacrosse according to Greg Hill, is just beginning, "We absolutely are
getting the interest up here. Once the kids got started last year, they
didnt want to stop! We will be going into more of the High Schools over
the next couple of months to recruit more players."

you wish to help or volunteer with the Whatcom programs contact Greg Hill
