EUGENE, Ore. Since the University of Washington beat Simon Fraser University 14-2 in Canada on March 5, 2005, the anticipation of April 9, when Washington traveled to Oregon had been building steadily in the PNCLL.

The anticipation of a great battle between two teams slowly faded away as No. 10 Oregon (6-4 overall, 2-1 PNCLL) jumped out in the first quarter with a 6-0 lead over   No. 24 Washington (8-3 overall, 3-1 PNCLL) in MDIA mens lacrosse, and kept the lead to cruise to a 16-5 win Saturday night in front of a crowd of 315.

Oregon played like the PNCLL champions, which they are, Washington coach Dejon Hush said. Whether they have ten losses or two, they are the team to beat in our league.

Washington finally got on the board when Eli Sonkin scored 34 seconds into the second quarter before Oregon placed four unanswered goals past Washington goalkeeper Tony Maack to make the score 10-1 in favor of the Ducks with 9:25 remaining in the first half. Adam Sangeorzan scored unassisted for Washington about two minutes later at 7:28, the first-half ended with Oregon ahead, 10-2.

Six different Ducks scored in the second half and nine players for Oregon tallied goals overall in the game, senior midfielder Dan Ernst led all scorers with four goals. Oregon sophomore attackman Julian Coffman tied Ernst for a game-high four points, Coffman finished with three goals and one assist.

Washington finishes its regular-season games as the Huskies travel to Gonzaga University (6-4 overall, 2-2 PNCLL) on April 16, and Central Washington University (6-8 overall) on April 17. Oregon next hosts Western Washington University (5-6 overall) on April 16, and Idaho (1-3 overall, 1-4 PNCLL) on April 17.
