DUBLIN, Ohio (March 6, 2005) The Kenyon College Lords gave Denison University all it could handle on the lacrosse field Sunday. The Big Red, however, used a third-quarter rush to forge ahead and a claim a season-opening 12-8 non-conference win at Dublin Coffman High School.

The game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday at Denison, but snowy conditions on Denisons home turf caused the game to be moved to a neutral site with artificial turf.

The conference rivals played evenly throughout the first and went to the break knotted up 4-4. Denison then started to pull away in the third quarter. Ted Douglass scored back-to-back goals within a two-minute span and guided the Big Red to a 4-1 advantage in the quarter. Kenyon could only answer with a goal from sophomore Sean Wheeler (Darien, CT/Brunswick School) that left the Lords trailing, 8-5.

Wheeler scored another goal in the fourth quarter, but it was answered by goals from Douglass and Chris Boehl, who both finished the game with three goals apiece for Denison. Wheeler wound up leading the Lords with two goals and an assist.

First-quarter goals by Adam Lucas (Ruxton, MD/St. Pauls (MD)) and Brad Harvey (Winchester, MA/Winchester) pushed Kenyon into a 2-2 tie with Denison. Two second-quarter goals from Luke Larson (Mercer Island, WA/Seattle Academy) gave Kenyon its first lead, but Denison snuck in the game-tying goal with 2:32 left in the half.

Senior Dave Neiman (Glencoe, IL/New Trier) made 14 saves for the Lords, who will now head to Florida for a set of three spring break games.
