Washington Struggles for Lacrosse Fields

Headline News
  Washington Lacrosse News

The August issue of the Lake Wash. Youth Soccer Assoc.'s parent newsletter prints:

 1)  "We are making progress in negotiations with King County Parks to take over responsibilities of the Marymoor dirt fields, eventually creating a year-round field-turf facility with seven fields. (gated and with lights)  We also established the use of the new Velodrome fields for 2004."

 2)  "Redmond Ridge East - We are very pleased to announce the completion of the first phase in our efforts to develop 10 soccer fields in the Union Hill Club area."   3)  "Willows Crossing (formerly Muller Farm) ....was....sold to LWYSA"  For more info on Willows Crossing and "rumor verification" refer to www.lwysa.org.

The Big One :  LWYSA sold off their money making Indian Casino for $200K and bought all three "Arena Sports"!   Why?  They need a more community friendly money-maker.   Rumor is pricing may go UP up up with access to the Arenas negatively affected....   A contact:  Mr. Young, CEO of LWYSA.  425.88-LWYSA.

Boys and Girls Eastside lacrosse team leaders - and those interested -  are meeting Sept. 20, 6:30PM at Redmond's, Bear Creek Brewery to discuss the 'carnage' and come up with tactics to secure fields for 2005.  Contact is  Tom Wehe  [email protected]

As a counter point, Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association is a non-profit organization investing in land in the community.  While these fields may change hands for ownership, one important fact to note- several of these fields are virtually unusable for sports like Soccer and Lacrosse right now due to the lack of field maintenance and personnel to correctly maintain the fields.  All that said, this will surely mean an increase in prices, as well as the difficulty our community currently has with scheduling fields.

With the changes and renovations happening at both Marymoor Park and at Magnuson Park, several teams will be vying for field opportunities this coming Spring.  If you know you are going to have this problem now, please contact the US Lacrosse Field Liaison, Kris Snider.
