Seattle Womens Nearly Closes the Deal with San Fran. North in the Finals at Western States Tournament!
Headline News

Eight (8) northwest post-collegiate and college club teams traveled to Palo Alto, CA to participate in the annual Western States Tournament the weekend of April 5th & 6th.  Seattle Womens made it to the finals of the Division 1 bracket once again. According to Coach Marisa Bassett the outcome of the game wasn't what our veteran group of fine athletes wanted but they were satisfied that they gave it their all.

According to Bassett..."Seattle Women's Lax had a powerful showing this past weekend at Stanford for the Western States Tournament. We played a fantastic two days of lacrosse under mostly sunny CA skies! We miraculously came up with a full team with one or two subs for each of our six games except for one half of our first game of the tournament whereby the fact that we were playing down one completely threw off our opponents!  For the quick recap, we made it to the Div. 1 club championship where we played a fast, super-skilled San Francisco North club team (same team we played against in the final last year) with the addition of powerhouse former Seattle club and Harvard goalie Sarah Leary. Rumor had it that Seattle was the team to beat! They came out strong with a 2-0 lead on us with a pair of sweet crease roll no look flip shots.  We came back from a 2-0 first half deficit to go to 5-3 at halftime. At some point, with goals from Marisa and Sue Haviland, we tied the game at 6-6. Marisa had 3 more shots with about a minute to go which Leary managed to stop. So then we went to sudden death overtime with a draw at the center. SF North won the draw and scored in less than 30 sec. We were so sad, but were proud to have made it to the championship and to have almost won! It was really that close. We will regain our title next year for sure."

Seattle Womens Scores for the weekend:

Sat:

vs. Cal Lax Co. 10-2

vs. UCLA A 6-4

vs. West. Wash. Univ. 10-2

Sun:

vs. Cal Poly 10-0

vs. UCLA A 9-1

vs. SF North 6-7
