SEATTLE – The 3rd highest scoring team in the state – Eastside Catholic, continued to do what they do best on Friday evening, and that’s score, putting up 19 goals on the way to a shutout victory over Roosevelt High School, moving them to 12-2 overall on the season.

Quick, consistent ball movement was the story of this game as the Crusaders absolutely overwhelmed the Roughriders versatile defense. Junior Peter Bogaard buried a time-and-room shot off a cross-field feed from Chase Bultez just a couple minutes in to put Eastside Catholic up, and then moments later, Bryce Atwater would find James Wehe from X for the bouncer down the left alley.

Eastside Catholic’s offense is one that relies heavily on sharing the ball and it was no different in this game with all but 1 goal in the first half coming off of an assist. Early in the 2nd quarter, Chase Bultez got flashy, first putting away a sidearm lazer on a flag-down situation from the top of the box, and then minutes later, Bultez received a feed from X from the sophomore Ryan Grazko, burying it behind the back to further the Crusader’s lead.

Roughrider’s senior keeper, Ethan Johnson has made plays in cage all season despite the lack of production on the offensive side. Unfortunately, going up against a speedy Eastside Catholic offense is a tough task, and it showed.

The Crusaders scored 11 goals in the first half, limiting the Roughrider’s chances on offense. Eastside Catholic’s defense smothered Roosevelt and dominated the groundball game resulting in opportunity after opportunity on offense. Conor Breen would get in the action for the Crusaders with a goal of his own, and then the freshman, Jack Sercu came flying across the crease to receive a feed from Bryce Atwater, taking a hit, but finishing to draw the flag.

Eastside Catholic would go on to score 7 more in the 2nd half, limiting the Roughriders opportunities for plays, and improving to 7-0 in conference play with the 19-0 win.

Roosevelt looks to mark down their first win of the season when they visit Blanchet (1-9) on May 5th, while the 12-2 Crusaders have a non-league matchup with Eastlake (7-5), as we begin to approach playoff time!
