Bothell vs. Issaquah - Game Report

BOTHELL – Sturdy defensive play and a 5-goal performance from Issaquah’s Mikey Giannopulos was more than enough for the Eagles to improve to 14-1 on the season, claiming a 12-4 victory over the Bothell Cougars, Tuesday evening at Bothell High School.

After a back-and-forth start with both teams exchanging goals early in the match, Issaquah found their groove and created separation on the scoreboard. Junior attackman, Cody Klansnic found the back of the net twice within a span of a couple of minutes - first off a feed from Ryan Egland, and then some beautiful tic-tac-toe passing from Jake Gonzalez and Riley Richards led to the feed on crease for an inside finish. Issaquah would go up 4-1 heading into the break.

Bothell found a little life in the 2nd quarter, first starting at X with a quick wraparound goal from the captain, Sean Hanrahan, and then Stuart MacDonald pushed a fast-break down the alley for a ripper off the rollback dodge to bring the Cougars back into the game. Issaquah would answer with 2 more of their own to keep Bothell at a distance as time ran down, sending the teams into half with a score of 6-3.

The Eagles defense would step-up major in the second half, shutting out the offensive attack of the Cougars in the 3rd quarter, and forcing outside shots. Issaquah keeper, Jordan Dondoyano played fantastic all game, eating up rips from the perimeter, and stuffing multiple attempts on the crease. Dondoyano would finish the contest with a 67% save – his 6th time with over a 60% save on the season.

Mikey Giannopulos put up another one of his 5 goals just seconds into the 3rd quarter, taking his face-off win and sprinting straight through the Cougars defense for the finish; and then Jake Gonzalez got into the action with a time and room rocket from the junior Jake Lindahl across field to send the Eagles sideline into a frenzy.

One more from Issaquah in the 3rd, and another three in the in the 4th quarter was the way the Eagles finished this one off, walking away with the 12-4 victory – their 14th win of the season, and 6th in conference play.

Bothell dropped to 5-6 on the season, and 3-4 within a tough KingCo Conference. The Cougars host a talented 8-2 Everett team as they look to right the ship. Issaquah looks to continue its 11 game winning streak as they host the Wolverines of Bellevue on May 2nd, in what’s sure to be a game of fireworks!
