The Sunday Stroll - Final Stretch

Key matchups are beginning to become a regular occurrence as we get closer to playoff time. With sudden shifts in the conference standing landscape, every game is a must win. Let’s take a closer look at the big happenings from this past week, and a little preview of what’s to come!

Division 1 Notes:

- Our first ‘Game of the Week’ featured two of Division I’s top teams – Bellevue and Eastside Catholic. Senior Zack Steffens scored 6 goals in the bout to help propel the Crusaders to the 12-6 victory over the Wolverines. The win pushed Eastside Catholic to 10-2 on the season.

- Skyline looked nothing but impressive this past week, notching a 3-0 record including W’s against Bainbridge, 14-3, and Oregon Episcopal, 8-3. The Spartans are sitting pretty with a 10-2 overall record, with matchups against Woodinville and Mercer Island just over the horizon.

- The state’s top scoring team, Mercer Island, remains undefeated on the year after beating Eastlake, 11-5, and knocking off a talented Eastside Catholic squad, 13-9. The Islander’s remaining schedule may be one of the toughest around though, with Lake Washington, Skyline, Bainbridge, Bellevue, and Issaquah all lined up.

- Sehome-Bellingham and Kamiak faced-off in the battle of Wesco-Northwest Conference’ best, Friday night. In a very physical game, Nathaniel Heritage, Mark Gannon, and Jackson Zerba all scored hat-tricks for the Warriors, helping the team to a 12-7 win over Kamiak - remaining undefeated in conference play.

Division II Notes:

- Ben Fujinaga and Ian Klimisch both scored 3 goals in Overlake’s 9-6 win over Nathan Hale. The win put’s Overlake at 5-1 on the season within conference – a second place spot in this weeks conference standings.

- Gonzaga Prep and Southridge battled it out for 48 straight minutes, but Cian Peterson’s 4 goals were enough for the Bullpups to outlast Southridge, 8-7. Gonzaga Prep is now 7-2 on the season, and sitting at #2 within the Eastern Conference.

- Providence recorded win number 7, and remained undefeated on the season after beating a good Nathan Hale team, 11-5. Not only has Providence scored 92 goals on the season – the most within the Division II Metro Conference, but has only given up 43 goals to opponents.
