Issaquah vs. Skyline - Game Report
SAMMAMISH – In a battle of two high-scoring teams, it was strong defensive presence and even better goalie play that kept the score in this one to a minimum, but the dagger in overtime by Jake Lindahl lifted Issaquah over Skyline, 4-3, Friday night at Skyline High School.
The Eagles went up early in the first quarter with a goal from senior Liam Colter, and then minutes later, another rip from the junior, Jake Gonzalez. The Spartans would strike back shortly after with one of their own to bring the score to 2-1 heading into the break.
The 2nd quarter was one full of opportunities. Skyline dominated the groundball game and time of possession in the period, but excellent goalie play from Issaquah’s Jordan Dondoyano kept the Spartan scoreless. Dondoyano finished the game with a 75% save – his 5th time in 2015 with at least a 70% save.
In the third, the Spartans would tie things up when Tyler Johnston found senior Charlie Kurtenbach inside off a tic-tac-toe fast-break opportunity to send the already wild crowd into a frenzy. Multiple defensive snags and interceptions would leave the Eagles scoreless for the second straight quarter, sending the teams into what would be an intense 4th quarter, 2-2.
Midway through the 4th quarter, Skyline’s Andy Hutchings delivered with an absolute rip to put the Spartans up for the first time in the bout, but Issaquah would strike back with a crease finish from Ryan Egland with just over 3 minutes left to send things to overtime.
In sudden death, Issaquah came up with the clutch face-off win and immediately settled down the offense to set things up. Ryan Egland would find the junior Jake Lindahl on the opposite side for the overtime winner, sending the Eagles to the hard-earned 4-3 win, and pushing their record to 11-1 on the season!
Issaquah (11-1) hosts O'Dea (7-2), and Skyline (7-2) welcomes Bainbridge (5-7), on April 21st!
