Seattle Prep vs. Lakeside - Game Report

SEATTLE – Stingy defense and excellent saves on both sides of the field kept the score close throughout most of the game, but a strong second-half surge gave Seattle Prep the hard-fought 9-6 victory over Lakeside, Tuesday night at Lower Woodland Park.

The game was a back-and-forth one in the 1st quarter, with both teams exchanging shots. Lakeside junior, Cory Foulk buried an inside feed from captain Peter Bromley to tie things up midway through the period, but senior Connor Gossman scored 1 of his 3 goals to put the Panthers back in the lead heading into the second.

The second-quarter was a defensive-battle to say the least. Navy-bound Sam Kopf put away the only goal midway through the 2nd, receiving a feed and finishing on the crease to extend the Panther’s lead. Kopf would go on to score 3 more goals in this one, including a hard rip off a right-to-split dodge from up top, later in the second half.

Lakeside keeper, Isaac Kleisle-Murphy played well all game, denying shot-after-shot from an always-potent Panthers offense, but 3 straight goals in 4th quarter, including one early from freshman Sergei Jacobs were the difference in this one, allowing Prep to put away the Lions, 9-6.

The loss puts Lakeside at 3-3 on the season, but still in striking distance of a playoff push. Sitting at the middle of the conference pack, the Lions take on a tough Overlake (3-1) squad next, while Seattle Prep (3-3) heads to take on an undefeated Kamiak (5-0) squad.
