Seattle Prep vs. Sehome-Bellingham - Game Report

SEATTLE – Thanks to a 4-point performance from Navy commit Sam Kopf, aggressive play from the poles, and a solid outing from sophomore keeper Bennett Ling, Seattle Prep dropped Sehome-Bellingham by a score of 10-6, Thursday evening to bring their record on the season to 1-1.

Four players on the roster scored at least 2 goals in what was an early rout for the Panthers, going into halftime with a 7-1 lead. Junior Michael Van Hare got things started for Prep with an early goal, beginning with a quick left-to-right split dodge from the top of the box. Freshman Sergei Jacobs then followed up with a goal of his own on a fast-break doorstep finish.

While the Warriors saw themselves with just two substitutes, it was their composure and patience that ultimately kept them in the game. Sehome-Bellingham put up 2 goals in the third quarter, and 3 in the fourth to bring the Panther’s lead to just 2 at one point. Juniors Nathaniel Heritage and Zachary Lorenz were clicking on all cylinders for the Warriors, scoring 5 of the teams’ 6 goals.

Seattle Prep’s time of possession was the difference in this game though, and it all started with senior Sam Kopf, and his dominate performance at the face-off X. Kopf completed his great performance with 2 assists and 2 goals, including a top-shelf rip on a fast-break, midway through the second. The Panthers put up just 3 goals in the second half, but thanks to their impressive first half performance, 3 was all they needed.

Warrior’s goalie Dakota Turgeon had a flashy performance, with multiple point-blank saves on the door step and crease that kept Sehome-Bellingham in the game when Prep was in attack mode.

In the end, it was Seattle Prep’s consistent defensive play, and offensive ball movement that led the Panther’s to a 10-6 victory.

Seattle Prep (1-1) takes on conference rival Eastside Catholic (0-0) on March 24th. Sehome Bellingham (0-2) hosts the Ballard Beavers (0-1) on the 21st.
