2014 State Championship - Recap

Division 1 this year was a marathon, not a sprint. 5 teams had a legitimate shot at the title, and it's unfortunate with this many great ones, that only one could end on top. Tides changed for the top teams throughout the season, but in the end, it was Bellevue who peaked at the right time. They were able to rattle off three wins against Auburn Riverside, Eastside Catholic, and Issaquah to earn their 11th championship. Their dominant shutout win against Issaquah, a team that handed Bellevue one of their only defeats on the year, was nothing short of impressive. Issaquah sophomore goaltender Jordan Dondoyano's 13 save effort couldn't stop the Bellevue's offense, who brought balanced scoring and put 8 on the board. Their 11th state championship, and a 3-peat for the Wolverines. Congrats to the Wolverines and Eagles on a great season!

Division 2 saw its own twists and turns, and ended with one of the most exciting games in state championship history. SAAS met King's Way, both teams in their first season after a program split. SAAS tied the game with just 21 seconds to go in the game off a broken King's Way clear. King's Way played a good game themselves, led by a strong offensive performance by Evan Ramirez. SAAS junior goalie Andrew McCall was the story in this game, putting up an MVP level performance against King's Way. He went down with an injury early, but came back in and played through it, standing on his head all game, and limping off the field a victor. This is a game that will be talked about for years to come. Thanks to Seattle Academy and King's Way for the show!
