Washington Chapter of US Lacrosse

Meeting Notes 6/8/04

Washington Chapter of US Lacrosse General Membership

Minutes of September 1, 2004 Board Meeting

Present:  Matt Cone, Mark Larson, Kris Snider, Effie Wardenburg, Gail Loveland, Coco Hess, Steve Corley, Erik Smith, Tom Wehe, Scott Wiley and Gail Shelton.

Mission:  The Mission of US Lacrosse is to ensure a unified and responsive organization that develops and promotes the sport by providing services to its members and programs to inspire participation, while preserving the integrity of the game.  We envision a future, which offers people everywhere the opportunity to discover, learn, participate in, enjoy and ultimately embrace the shared passion of the lacrosse experience.

Washington Chapter Structure:  The Chapter is made up of three entities in the budget:

The Unified Budget promotes both mens and womens events together

The Mens Council Budget promotes programs for the men

The Womens Council Budget promotes programs for the women

The chapter does not run the various leagues or referee organizations, but supports the efforts of these groups through services and programs.  Matt will be attempting to find people who want to get involved who are not involved in the day-to-day lacrosse efforts such as coaching, running leagues, refereeing etc.

Matt will be the Webmaster for the Chapter portion of walax.com

The Mens and Womens Councils (Effie and Steve) need to identify a high school boy and girl to sit on each Council.

Field availability will continue to be an issue for many teams.  Kris Snider will continue to be liaison for the Seattle-based teams and Tom Wehe will serve as liaison for the Eastside-based teams.  These gentlemen will not locate available fields but will act as a resource for teams needing fields.

Budget:  Matt reviewed the budget process for 2005.  There are several ways the Chapter raises funds.

The Championship Games is a unified event for all ages.  The consensus is that an event site other than Seahawks Stadium will be good for the event.  Memorial Stadium is being considered which is less risky and requires less effort from volunteers.  A chairperson needs to be identified immediately and Matt is working on filling that position.  Perhaps an organization that manages these events professionally is the answer.  Gail Loveland will send Matt a list of names of organizations that Starlight Foundation has used in the past.  Smitty will look into Seahawks Stadium and Memorial Stadium and Kris Snider will check Husky Stadium.

LaxBash Another fund-raising event for the Chapter.  Matt is working with Seattle Mens Club to co-host the event with the Chapter with excess funds going toward the Chapter.  This will be an adult only event.

LAXFEST Mark Larson has again this year stepped up to take control of LAXFEST 2005.  He will be working with the Mens and Womens Council to structure this event.

Hall of Fame Kris Snider will be working on the formation of the Washington Lacrosse Hall of Fame with selections by the end of the year and induction in the Fall.

Newsletter Matt will be using an HTML publication tool to send out a monthly newsletter to all members of the Chapter to keep them informed.

Video Library Tony Olney has been in charge of the Library for two years and would like to expand it considerably.  It was suggested that the tapes be given to the King County Library System to be checked out.  Matt will talk with Tony about this idea.

Proposed 2005 Budget - Matt passed out the proposed budget and discussed each with the Board.  Effie Wardenburg is the Chair of the Womens Council and Kris Snider is the Chair of the Mens Council.  Within the next thirty days each Council needs to let Matt know how they would like their money allocated.  Tony has already begun working on clinics for coaches and Erik Smith is doing the same for officials.

WIAA The Chapter will support the boys and girls high school Boards by providing information, acting as liaison between other states and USL (national has resources also), but the role of the Chapter is to support not make the decision to go or not go WIAA.

PCA The Mens Council felt if PCA was part of the coachs clinic at all, it should be a very abbreviated presentation.  The Girls Council will not be presenting PCA at the coachs clinics this year.

Please send any changes in contact information to Matt Cone as soon as possible.

Meeting adjourned at 9:15 P.M.

                                                            Gail Shelton, Secretary
