 US Lacrosse FAQ:

1.     What is US Lacrosse?

US Lacrosse, based in Baltimore, is the national governing body for the game of lacrosse for both men and women.   It oversees the development of the game, encourages expansion to new areas, and sponsors national events.

2.     What does the US Lacrosse Washington Chapter do?

US Lacrosse is organized into reginal chapters.  Each Chapter sets its own priorities.  The Washington State Chapter has set the following goals for 2003-04: Coach development; referee development; and, new team development.  These goals reflect the Chapters strategic plan to best support the continued development of the game in this state.

In addition, the Chapter sponsored and ran the 2003 State Championships, LaxBash (a preseason get-together and fundraiser) and Laxfest  (a season ending lacrosse get-together featuring many all-star games and other events).

3.     Why should I be a member?

In addition to adding your support to the to the national and local organization described above, US Lacrosse membership includes comprehensive insurance coverage for players, coaches and officials with year round coverage while you play, coach or officiate in your regular league, summer league, camps and tournaments.  Another great benefit is eight US Lacrosse Magazines which will keep you in touch with the national lacrosse scene and is full of instruction and advice.

4.     How does the Chapter relate to other organizations (e.g. WALAX, local youth, H.S. and adult leagues, summer or indoor leagues, etc)?

The Chapter has no official connection with any of the organizations listed above.  The Chapter does not run any league and does not receive any funding from any league.  The Chapter is also completely distinct from the WALAX website.   There is, however, one important connection between all these organizations: many of the dedicated people affiliated with those organizations are members of US Lacrosse!

5.  How is the Washington Chapter funded?

The Chapter receives funds from several sources.  The principal source of income in 2002\03 was the Championship event at Seahawk Stadium.  In addition, the Chapter received money back from the national organization (a membership dues rebate) and numerous gifts from private sources.  These funds are budgeted by the chapter councils that oversee the mens and womens lacrosse programs in Washington and a small amount is allotted to the unified budget for Chapter operating expenses.   All funds are spent in service to the goals set for the Chapter but tailored to the needs of the mens and womens programs.

6.      Can US Lacrosse help me get a new team started?

Yes!  The Chapter, through generous support from the national organization, has funds dedicated to helping new teams get started.  Need sticks to get a team started?  Need goals to get the new program out of the blocks?  Need advice about how to start from scratch?
