Club Background

The Seattle Women's Lacrosse Club was first started in the early 1980's.  The team today consists of about 70% East Coast folks and 30% West Coast folks, from those just out of college to those with fan clubs filled with little'uns. All of the team members are driven by the following lacrosse goals:

(1) to increase our level of play

We all love the sport and put as much into it as each person has time for.  Most of our members have had at least a few years of playing experience at the college level.  We are fierce competitors, especially at the big tournaments such as Western States, PNLA, and the US Lacrosse Women's National tournament.  We respect each others' outside interests and participation is on a 'come as you can' basis.  But when we do get together for practice, we use the time we have to motivate and bring out the best in each other.

(2) to expand the player base in the area and introduce more individuals of all ages and abilities to the sport

Many of our team members not only play lacrosse, but are also involved in the Seattle-area lacrosse community either through coaching (high school, college, and club levels), reffing (we have at least 6 USWLA rated officials), and/or Northwest league administration.

(3) to have fun

We feel privileged to be able to play lacrosse post-college at a high level with such a great collection of awesome and inspiring women.  With all of this camaraderie and adrenaline, we continue to play hard off the field, as evidenced by our annual ski trip, backpacking trip, and the frequent post-practice beverage.

During the pre-season (late Jan. to mid-March) we typically practice twice a week, and as the weekend games start rolling in (March through May) practice tends to slow down to once a week.

This year's (2004) practice sites, days and times are still to be determined.  Check this site for updates.

The league is always looking for players.  Experienced players new to NW lacrosse are encouraged to attend practices for both Seattle and Breakaway club teams to find your fit.
