Seattle Womens Places Second in Division I at the 2000 Western States Tournament in Stanford, CA

It was warm and sunny at the University of Stanford this past weekend of April 8th and 9th.  The fields were beautifully maintained providing all teams with excellent conditions to play some great lacrosse.

The Seattle Womens team ended Saturday with smashing victories against San Francisco Club and Colorado University.  Stanford University held their own against Seattle on Saturday and again on Sunday, but not without a price.  Seattle Womens was able to keep up with their young opponents at 3-3 up until the last 5 minutes of the final game.  A crucial offside foul was called against Seattle and the Cardinal quickly took advantage of the questionable call by scoring on the break away.  The last goal was also off a break, proving Seattles defense was absolutely rock-solid on settled attack.  Huge saves were committed by Seattles excellent goalie, Effie Wardenberg.  For the majority of the second half, many balls were recovered by Seattles awesome defense and graciously returned to their own settled offense.  Seattles offense rocked the field with beautiful patience and drive.

The game was very intense and heated.  It was especially great to have such a wonderful supporting crowd overwhelmingly outnumbering the Stanford fans.  It gave off a real home court feeling.  Many thanks to the Northwest fans!
