Seattle Women's Lacrosse Club
Lax News | Calendar | Lax Talk | Men's Teams | Women's Teams | Get on List | Send E-Mail | HomeThe Seattle Women's Lacrosse Club was the first women's club team in the Pacific Northwest and have been around since the early 1980's. The women who established the Pacific Northwest women's lacrosse league (started with three teams total) were from this team. 95% of our team members are either graduated from college and working or in graduate school. The team consists of about 70% East Coast folks and 30% West Coast folks. 95% of our team has played organized lacrosse in college including team members from Colgate, Brown, Harvard, Middlebury, Whitman, UPS, Wellesley, Penn State, Colorado, and Dartmouth. We have won the UW tournament since its inception and have been the PNLA club champions (with one exception) every year since its inception. We have placed in the top four in the 'A' bracket of the Western States tournament every year since 1991 (including winning it one year). Our team members also constitute the majority of the team that goes to represent our league at Nationals (that team finished 1st in Division 4 in 1994 - first year; 3rd in Division 3 in 1995; 1st in Division 3 in 1996; and 7th in Division 2 in 1997). Seattle was undefeated with the exception of one loss at Western States last year.
All of the team members have been driven by the following goals related to lacrosse: (1) to increase the level of play in the Pacific Northwest; (2) to expand the player base in this area and introduce more individuals of all ages and abilities to the sport; and (3) to have fun. We have 9 team members who coach at either the high school or college-level in the area and a couple of members are USWLA-rated officials for both the high school and club league. The league president has rotated between members of this team since the league was established. We all love the sport tremendously and put as much into the sport as each individual has time for. However, all team members respect everyone's outside interests and participation is on a 'come as you can' basis. During the season we typically practice 1-2 times a week depending on how many games we have during the weekends.
With three club teams in the area, the competition for players has grown. There is currently no draft system in place for obtaining new members and the league would like to avoid that if possible. Our team is cohesive based on commonality of spirit (fun but fierce competitors) and goals. We are always looking for players (especially a goalie since we didn't have one this year) and anyone who is interested should call
Maggie O'Sullivan 206-633-3250.
