Washington Girls HS League

Week of April 14th, Fifth week of games

Calling all coaches!!!! It is very important to get all player stats and game results entered into sportability so I can fully report on individual and team records.  I very much want to give a full picture of who is doing what in the B league.  Every time a score is not reported the standings are not accurate.  Please help me to report on the hard work your players are doing!!!

A League Recaps

Previously tied with Lakeside and Forest Ridge, Bainbridge Island now stands alone in second place in the Varsity A league having won both of their match-ups this week.  Bainbridge Island proved to be in control against a young Holy Names team.  With their size and stick work ability they were able to dominate play.  While Jen Utley was the clear leader in scoring for the team with 5 goals, the vikings had impressive scoring contributions from 6 other players.  Alexandria Winnicki had 3, Sayuri Hayashi and Maggie Pettit each had 2, and Whitney Hume and Alec Zimmerman each scored 1.
Lakeside struggled early against Bainbridge but with under ten minutes to play the Lions were able to tie it up.  Despite the valiant efforts of Liz Morbeck and Mallory Lobisser, Jen Utley was too much too contain scoring 6 of the Vikings 10 goals.  Christen Topel had key contributions for Bainbridge not only scoring a goal, but also with 2 draw controls and causing 2 turnovers.  Also causing 3 key turnovers was Mehgan Colkitt.

A major match-up of the week saw undefeated Lakeside host the undefeated Panthers.  Lakeside came out firing hard and were the first to find the net.  Liz Morbeck did a great job of finding Mallory Lobisser for 3 of Lobisser's 5 goals of the day.  At half-time the Lions trailed by 2.  But the second half saw the Panthers pull away and simply dominate.  By far the best passing team in the league this year, the Panthers found the open players in the mid-field and in front of the goal and were able to posses the ball for the majority of the second half.  The Lions were out scored 11-3 in the second half.  Joanne Krochalis was the Panther to stop with 6 goals on the day.  She and Jessica Verrilli combined for 10 of the teams 18 goals.  Verrilli also came up big with 3 assists on the day.  Lakeside had key midfield contributions from Sara Axlerod and a goal from Siobhan Thomas-Smith.
The Panthers also took on Holy Names for the second time this season and beat them by a score of 15-7.  Noelle Anderson led the charge with 5 goals and an assist.  Bailey Lauren had a fantastic game not only scoring 3 goals but also posting 3 huge assists.  Not to be over looked is the solid and instrumental play of Sara Gasparich.  A key defensive player, Gasparich logged 7 ground balls against the cougars.  For Holy Names it was Nicole Amundsen who was the team high scorer on the day.  Kathleen Keegin-Boes had 2 and Claire Jesse had a goal and an assist.  Despite being on the losing end, freshman goalie Christine Villaneuva had very impressive play stopping 10 shots against a very talented Panthers offense.

Jen Utley was simply impressive this week scoring 11 goals, six of which were against a tough Lakeside team.
