Varsity A Recap

Lakeside played 3 games this week winning 2 and losing 1.  The Lions were able to handle themselves against Overlake and Seattle Prep with Seattle Prep coming the closest of the two to be within 6 goals.  Okrasinski was the leader on offense against both Overlake and Seattle Prep scoring 4 goals each time out.  Tylie Cramer scored 3 and had 2 assists against the owls with sister Emily Cramer scoring 2 goals with 2 assists.  Siobhan Thomas-Smith scored 2 while Lisa Baldini scored 2 against the Panthers along with the Cramer sisters scoring 2 each.  The key against the Owls was limiting Anna De Regt to 2 goals on the day.  Erin Coltrera also made 4 saves of the 8 shots against her for Lakeside in goal.  For the Panthers Casey Myburgh and Katie Oconnel each had 3 but Lakeside was too potent on the offensive end.  The tides turned, however, when Lakeside met Bainbridge for the second time this season.  Bainbridge h! eld Lakeside to only 5 goals and was able to walk away with a 20-5 win.

Bainbridge also took care of things when they Played Seattle Prep this week beating them by a score of 18-5.  Katie Oconnel led scoring with 2 for the Panthers but the tsunami offense of Bainbridge was inevitable.  Jen Utley led the scoring charge with 5 with Hannah Davis on her heels with 4.  Dimitra Lotakis was solid as she stopped 9 of 14 shots on goal.

With 4th 5th and 6th place in A league standings all fairly closely matched, the meeting of Seattle Prep and Overlake had major play-off implications.  With Forest Ridge sitting in the 4th place spot having won and lost to both Overlake and Seattle Prep the Raiders needed Overlake to get the win against the Panthers.  To show just how tightly these teams are was a dead even tie between the two teams.  Overlake had the lead down the stretch but Seattle Prep was able to tie it up in the last minutes and hold on for the 10-10 score.  This leaves Forest Ridge with the task of beating Lakeside or Mercer Island these week for a shot at being in the play offs for the second year in a row.

The Raiders had a busy and tough week hosting both Bainbridge Island and Mercer Island before travelling to Holy Names at the end of the week.  The Raiders came out on fire against Bainbridge finding themselves up 2-0 in the first few minutes and showing great defensive teamwork.    Eventually Bainbridge pulled away and were able to dominate play.  Mercer Island came out with 5 unanswered goals to start things out against Forest Ridge this week.  The Raiders snapped to to be right back into things to be with in 2 at half time.  The second half was a game of spurts with both teams taking turns going at the other.  Mercer Island controlled it in the end to come out with a hard fought 16-10 victory.  After the two tough back to back match-ups Forest Ridge got a day off to prepare for a hard charging Holy Names team.  The First half was tightly contested by both teams with Holy Names able to control much of th! e draw.  In the second half, however, Forest Ridge simply came alive and put in a great effort to win by a score of 12-5.

Overlake was able to dominate play against Bellevue this week.  This time for the Owls it was Julie Hunt leading scoring with 6 goals and just behind was Anna De Regt with 5.  All in all 8 players got on the board for Overlake.  Jenna DiCasparro had 2 goals and 2 assists along with Katherine Hadley who also scored 2.  Hayley Droppert, Bridget Meredith, Katie Smith and Hannah Rivenburgh each had 1 goal each.  Droppert also added in with an assist.

B League Recaps

With the B league split into East and West Divisions this year it is starting to come down to wire as to who will be in a postition to contest for play off spots.  Being undefeated thus far, Kitsap has already assured themselves top spot in the B West Division.  Curtis and Bainbridge are left to battle out for the 2nd spot in the West.  This week with 2 key wins against both Bainbridge and Curtis, Seattle Prep has clinched 2nd spot overall and the 1st seed in the B East Division.  It now comes down to Snohomish and Lake Sammamish with every game a must win for both teams to clinch that 2nd seed.  Things will indeed go down to the wire.

Seattle Prep had 2 huge victories this week.  The first came against Bainbridge Island in a low scoring 3-2 win.  On the field Kathleen Vukelich Carissa Dolente and Annie Hunter each found the net for Seattle Prep.  For Bainbridge it was Jane Baumgartner and Emily Robinson with the scores.  The real story for both teams were the goalies.  Caitlyn Frazier was able to stop 11 of 14 shots to leave Seattle Prep with only 3 points.  Normally that might seal the deal.  But Seattle Prep's goalie, Taryn Ryder saved an incredible 13 of 15 shots to give her team the 1 point edge.  It was a somewhat similar story for the Panthers against Curtis.  Curtis Goalie Sara Sipes came up big saving 14 shots and allowing only 6.  But again Taryn Ryder came up just that little bit bigger saving 17 of 22 shots to give her team another 1 point victory.

Kitsap took on 3 teams this week and came out of it with 3 dominant victories.  The Raiders fell by a score of 18-3.  Lake Sammamish put up a tough fight to come within 9, which puts in perspective just how dominant Kitsap has been this year.  Maple Valley was only able to post 2 goals against 17 by Kitsap.  I could rattle off names of who scored how many and in what game, but what it really comes down to is that they are winning as a team.  Nine Players posted goals against the Raiders.  It will be hard to deny them anything as they seem intent on marching straight to the State Title.

The rest of the week was all Snohomish.  By a forfeit from Eastside Catholic they got to mark an x in the win column.  They did it for Rizzle by beating Mercer Island 12-7.  Against the Raiders they recorded a shut out.  Maria Heinegg led scoring with 5 goals.

For both leagues the number 1 seeds have sealed the deal as far as playoff spots go.  For all the rest be sure and tune in next week.
