PLU Lacrosse Mens' and Womens' Lacrosse Coach

PLU Womens' lacrosse has stood on its own for the past two years.  Before the 2000 season PLU and UPS (University of Puget Sound) combined for one program.  Since the 2000 season PLU has been on their own as a team.  During the first years the team struggled with numbers of players to field a team and a coach.  The outlook for the 2003 season looks optimistic as Captain Jess Schwink has done much to organize and recruit players.  We will be returning 3 to 4 players and have 15 new girls, 5 sophomores and 10 freshmen.  All the girls have shown much interest in building a team for success as they practice hard on learning fundamentals.  We are practicing two times a week on Thursday and Friday 5:00 pm till dark at Foss field.  In two weeks we will move to our permanent practice field East Campus.  The outlook looks very good for the 2003 season.  Jess has also secured one of the mens' coaches to help out this fall and in March and April with coaching longtime lacrosse enthusiast Greg "Bubba" Gutherless.  I Bubba graduated from Oregon State University in 1989 and has been involved with lacrosse since 1985.  This is his second season with the men at PLU and his first experience with coaching women.  Bubba is committed to taking the time to study women's lacrosse with the goal of building a successful women's team at PLU.  The team is hoping to add to their coaching staff at PLU by early next year.
