Curtis Recap:

The Big Blue rolled into its first lax championship since the boys took it in '94.  It was a tough game, but the Viking offense dominated to bring in the game.  Allison ""Magic"" Johnston, Katie Galligan, Frannie Shipp all had goals, leading the O into one of its highest scoring games yet. Down on defense Nina Polkinghorn, Jen Chen and Tara Shoeflin were players of the game.  The best play of the game goes to Goalie Alida Dooling, who in her final game as a Viking, came out of the goal to stun the Lakeside defense and to get the long pass down the field.  The Vikings would like to thank the MI team for hosting, the fans, and all of the other teams we've played this year.  Props to Coaches G, Brenda ""whosaidcheese?"" Rice, and ""Super Fuzz"" Josh Miller.  You guys are awesome!!!! !  Great season Curtis!  ROLL BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!

Panthers 4 - Bainbridge V1 21

Panthers Recap: OK...21-4 what can a coach say about a score like this?  Plenty.  Despite the score being a blowout the game actually wasn't all that one-sided.  The veteran Bainbridge team is a powerhouse. Every player demonstrated excellent skills all around which resulted in frequent turnovers...a pleasure to watch and compete against. The Panthers had several strong full field transitions to the goal exhibiting crisp passing and teamwork. Draws were won, dodging was effective and shots on goal were made...the cubs just couldn't put the ball in the goal. The four goals scored were the result of skilled tight passing.  Chelsea Hansen had two beautiful assists and Senior Kate Lancaster fed a perfect pass to JoAnne Krochalis.  Krochalis received the game's coach's award with her first regular season hat trick. She effectively used the open spaces to receive the ball close in and produce tight shots.  On defense Senior Jody Norwood tried true til the end and was successful a number of times in returning the bal

Forest Ridge Recap: After struggling to break through Greenwood's aggressive defense early in the 1st half, the Raiders eventually built up a 7-1 halftime lead.  Juniors Mo Wyse and Kim Jones, and Sophomore Katie Malone scored their first goals of the season.  Lizzie Prentke led the team in assists with 3.  Jackie Spencer matched her goal total with 2 assists.  Mo Wyse also had an assist to match her goal total.  Lauren Riggers added 3 goals to her team leading goal total despite not playing most of the second half.  Michelle McQuaid played strong again in goal registering 4 saves in the first half.  Freshman Kelly Ferguson stepped into goal for the 2nd half and showed some great moves while tallying 5 saves.

Panthers 7 - Overlake 12

Panthers Recap: Ten minutes into the game the Panthers woke up and turned on the heat.  Sara Gasparich takes home the Coach's Award for her 110% effort, strong defensive positioning and coming up with ground balls to advance the ball full field.  Jessica Verrilli scored 5 goals unassisted working her way past defenders and double teams.  A well played game by all Panthers who fought hard til the end.  Kudos to the low defense who got it together and slowed down Overlake's excellent attack and kept the score respectable.

Lakeside 5 - Bainbridge V1 15

Lakeside Recap: Thought the score does not reflect Lakeside's playing, the lions held Bainbridge to a 2-1 score with two minutes left in the first half.  At half the score was 4-1 and the lions just could not recover.  Lakeside's defense played a fabulous game and worked as a team to stop Bainbridge from scoring. However, Bainbridge's power house scorers put the ball in the net.

Curtis Recap: The Viking women hosted the Panthers Varsity for a JV-Varsity scrimmage.  The weather was great and the competition was fierce.  The Lady Viks established an early lead, taking it 6-1 at the half.  The Panthers played a tough second half, wearing out the injured and ill Viking defense.  Fran Shipp played another offensely strong game, and goalie Alida Dooling had a bazillion saves.  WAY TO GO VIKS!  Thanks to the Panthers for coming all the way down to play us and providing tuff competition.

Panthers Recap: Back from their victorious weekend in California, the Western States champion Cougars ate up the young Panthers back in the Rain City. The Cougars played a near flawless attack.  The Panthers are not discouraged and value the learning experience.  Panther keeper Kendra Harkins was not deterred by the opponent's excellent shots and continued to jump out at them denying 13 more goals.  Freshmen A-Wing Meredith Wheels Rockwell earned the Coach's Award by giving 100% effort throughout the entire game.  She has earned herself more playing time with her grately improved stick skills allowing her several runs, completed passes and two defensive turnovers. JoAnne Krochalis got creative and placed two excellent shots out of the goalie's reach and into the net.

Forest Ridge Recap: The intense Islanders jumped out to an early lead off the opening draw forcing Forest Ridge to play catch up most of the 1st half.  It wasn't until late in the 1st half that the Raiders took the lead for good.  The Raiders passing and ball handling is rapidly improving as witnessed by the 4 assists from 4 different players (Ashley Wissmiller, Lauren Riggers, Mo Wyse and Jackie Spencer).  The Islanders kept the game close by converting on all 3 of their Free Position Shots closing to within 1 late in the second half.  Jackie Spencer answered with 3 quick rolls past her defender from behind the net in the last few minutes of the game to seal the victory.  Michelle McQuaid continued her aggressive and improving play in goal tallying 6 saves for the game.

Bellevue 7 - Greenwood 10

Bellevue Recap: Bellevue broke out to an early 2-0 lead in a see-saw battle of the 1st half with Greenwood not breaking out until the 2nd half.  Lindsey and Margo Helgen combined with Nancy Brice and Carras Fletcher in an exceptionally strong defensive performance for the Wolverines.  Their efforts limited Bellevue's goalies need for saves to only 5 for the game (Becca Miller - 2 and Catie Royal - 3).  Megan Hartford and Courtney Hull each tallied an assist for Bellevue.  The game was even closer than the score indicates as 2 shots for Bellevue richocheted off the posts and were not counted.

Panthers Recap: Close, exciting game all around.  Panther Center Jessica Verrilli (Coach's Award) played an outstanding game by forcing turnovers, dominating groundballs and chalking up 4 goals.  Chelsea Hansen's improved stick skills resulted in 3 strong assists. JoAnne Krochalis put the ball between the posts with her fast, hard shots. Close passing moved the ball to the arc continuosly but their shots were deflected by Mercer Island's strong goalies. Defensively, the Panthers did a fine job coming up with 8 saves and were able to complete the turnovers holding the opponent to 5 goals to their 6 goals in the second half. As a first year Varsity team the Panther's are gaining momentum in the league and learning from their more experienced opponents.

Panthers 9 - Bellevue 2

Panthers Recap: Six players scoring nine goals was a fine example of how the Panthers work together as a team to chalk up the 'W.'  Communication on defense was the key to allowing only 8 shots on goal of which up and coming goalie Kendra Harkins deflected and cleared 6 with consistent precision.  Panther's 3rd Home Tessa Wollum earned the game Coach's award by dominating ground balls and short passes to handle the transition.  D-Wing Noelle Anderson was predictably on her opponent with fine checking to gain the turnover.  Center Jessica Verrilli also shined on defense as well as on the draws.
