PACIFIC NORTHWEST COLLEGIATE LACROSSE LEAGUE Rule Changes for 2001 Early this year, the rules committee for NCAA Lacrosse proposed a number of fairly drastic rule changes centered around the introduction of a shot clock. With the introduction of the shot clock, the offensive box would have been eliminated along with the 10 second rule in the offensive end, and changes were proposed to substitution rules as well as the elimination of dead ball horns. However, feedback to the rules committee prior to and during fall ball sessions which experimented with the new rules was negative, and the proposed shot clock introduction was put on hold with the other rule changes to be implemented for the coming season. Since then, the committee has further re-evaulated and it seems that it will be the status quo for the upcoming season with none of the rule changes proposed implemented. Be warned however: the committee is quite emphatic in stating that at this point the introduction of the shot clock has only been postponed. Teams may wish to start budgeting now for the expense that may be incurred in the future to acquire the shot clocks needed for games if this package of rule changes goes through for the 2002 season.
