COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
- Three members of the Colorado College
women's lacrosse team - freshman midfielder
Helen Sneath (Wayne, PA), sophomore defender Lizzie Franke (Winnetka, IL)
and sophomore midfielder Cassie Abel (Vashon Island, WA) - have
earned All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches
Association and US Lacrosse. Sneath and Franke were named to the second team,
while Abel was a third-team selection.
Sneath lead the Tigers in goals (46) and
total points (69), was second in assists (23) and ground balls (62), third in
forced turnovers (20) and fourth in draw controls (20). Sneath's 69 points tied
her with Kelli Kessler (1998) for the most total points in a single season in
the nine-year history of CC women's lacrosse, and her 46 goals are the most ever
scored by a freshman.
Franke led the team in ground balls
(70) and forced turnovers (26). She led all defenders with five goals and six
assists for 11 points.
Abel was second on the team in goals
(45) and total points (54), third in ground balls (58) and draw controls (23),
and fourth in forced turnovers (15). After just two seasons, she already ranks
fifth in career scoring and seventh in career points. Abel's two-year totals of
80 goals and 108 points rank second to only Kessler's totals of 100 goals and
126 points in scoring by players in their first two seasons.
Colorado College finished the season
with an 8-6 record and made its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA
tournament and third overall. The Tigers defeated the College of Wooster in a
first-round game for the program's first-ever postseason victory.
The IWCLA/US Lacrosse All-America teams
are sponsored by Brine and this marks the second consecutive year the two
organizations have issued a joint All-America team.
Cassie graduated from Lakeside School in 2001.
