Washington State Championships to be held at Seahawks Stadium!

A view of the Seahawks Stadium field

Sept 24, 2002: For the last several years, the Boys and Girls high school and middle school lacrosse state championships have been held at Mercer Island stadium. Although a great venue for the event, many felt the event should rotate locations to provide for variety and fairness to all teams.  Early this summer a committee was formed to determine possible locations and structure for the 2003 state championships. The committee, consisting of Mike Bural of Bainbridge (Chair), Erik Smith, Ian O'Hearn (Mercer Island Coach) and Chris Long (Nathan Hale Coach), met during the summer to discuss possible venues.

During his drive to work one day, Erik "Smitty" Smith (head of WA Boys HS Officials and member of the WA US Lacrosse board), heard a radio advertisement announcing the opportunity for diverse groups to utilize the new Seahawks Stadium for unique events. The wheels started turning! Two months later, due to the hard work of the committee and generosity of First and Goal, Inc. (The management group for Seahawks Stadium) the deal is done! The 2003 Boys and Girls state championships will be held on Saturday May 17th at Seahawks Stadium.

The committee is still meeting to determine final logistics for the event such as sponsorship opportunities, ticket sales and the agenda for the day. It should be a tremendous event that will clearly showcase our great sport for the NW sports community.

#1. Do you know a company that might be interested in advertising at this event?

#2. Can you contribute your special skill/time toward preparing for this event?

Perhaps you know someone who owns a business or leads an organization that could provide financial sponsorship... or perhaps you are experienced with skills in event planning, parking control, audio and video engineering, or advertising production work, such as copy editing and graphic arts.
