WOOFs vs South Fraser Masters June 22nd-23rd 2002:
WOOFs, our trip to Canada was great. The weather was near perfect although a bit hot on Saturday. Our hosts were very hospitable and kept the games clean. We had some last minute dropouts so we only had about 12 players on Saturday. The South Fraser folks gave us a couple of players to help roundout our squad. I was pleasantly surprised to see that all of our players could still play the game well and run, despite the onset of old age :) The game was tied going into the 4th quarter when we started to run out of gas. We lost by several but had a fun game and knew that we could have taken 'em with a couple of more players. We consoled ourselves in the fact that over half of their offense came from a recently retired Toronto Rock player. We survived with only one injury (Big Dan Doster). Our hosts provided food and drinks after the game. Saturday evening some of us went to a box game (after a welcome dip in the hotel swimming pool). The game was brutal but it was good to see some pro level players like John Grant in action. The best part of the game was between the 1st and 2nd periods when 2 teams of five year olds played a mini-game. They were so cute! The goalies could hardly walk with all their pads! Sunday we lost a few guys but had a couple more show up. Gary Gibb showed up and we were going to have him play defense instead of goal but the S. Fraser guys were short a goalie so we traded him for a helmet. We led most of the game but the lead went back and forth in the fourth quarter. The game ended in a tie (no overtime). This was a fun trip for everyone and I'm sure guys are excited to play in August in Seattle. Here is a list of who played this weekend:
