Timers and Scorers Clinic at SPU January 29th

Trying to help out the team? Want to learn more about lacrosse? Want a front row seat at "The Fastest Game on Two Feet?"

Every lacrosse team needs qualified Timer's and Scorer's for EVERY game. Here is your chance to learn how to run the clock and mark the scorebook, and become an active part in the "Third Team" on the field ( the officials are the Third Team). Proper timing and scoring are important to a smooth running game, and the game statistics are important for coaches and team statistics.

The Washington Lacrosse Officials Association (WALOA) is sponsoring a Timer's and Scorer's Clinic on 29 January from 2:00-4:00 pm at Seattle Pacific University. Mike Bural, class instructor, said the class will Emphasize roles and responsibilities of the timekeeper and scorekeeper under game conditions. Fundamental dos and donts for the beginner, and discussion of priorities and refinements for the more advanced, experienced volunteer.

Dave Low, President of WSBLA said, "This is a GREAT opportunity for parents to get involved with the team. A lot of parents would like to help out, but do not know anything about lacrosse. This clinic will provide the training and practice required to provide critical services to the team. I know it is a lot more fun if you are prepared for the task, and this clinic is just what is needed. I hope each team will send at least two people to the clinic. Properly trained Timers and Scorers take a HUGE load off the coaching staff, and really help the game move smoothly".

"We have provided this clinic for the past two years" said Erik Smith, WALOA Chairman. "The volunteers that attended the clinics are much better prepared for their jobs when the season starts, and have a LOT more fun. There are a few changes in the rules this year, and it is important for "The Box" to be coordinated with the field team."

The Clinic is open to anyone who plans on Timing or Scoring this year - college, club, high school, middle school, and Lighting League. Each team, Varsity, JV, A and B, or whatever, needs to have one qualified Timer and one qualified Scorer in "The Box," prepared and ready to go at least thirty minutes before the first whistle. This year at the class, all Timers and Scorers will receive a Training Manual and Instruction Cards (Cheat Sheet), as well as suggestions for desired equipment, as "tools of the trade." As an added bonus, all Timers and Scorers attending the class will be given a WALOA visor.

The cost of the clinic is $10.00 per individual, covering the cost of all materials. Please sign up as soon as possible to prepare adequate materials for all attendees. Check www.waloa.info for more details on this and all other Officials events.  If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected].
