One rumor
has generated quite a bit of controversy about whether or not the 'B'
League and 'A' League should join together, or remain separate. For
several years now, there has been a cultural and philosophical difference
between the 'A' league and the 'B' league. Some may state, this
difference is a level of play, a difference in attitude about the game, or
a difference in the way the game is played. In my mind, at least,
the differences appear blurry. While the 'A' League has decidedly
had its challenges with stabilizing the league at 6 teams, the 'B' league
has grown by comparison.
In Fact,
the B
league has not agreed to any structural changes that would promote a team
up to the A division on an annual basis. Rather, the B league is now
adding a quarter final round this year and holding their championships in
Portland, the second weekend in June.
The B league
is expecting to field 9 - 10 teams in the 2006 season. Discussions
with a new Bainbridge Team, Vashon Island team, and a Salem Oregon Team
are already underway.
Meanwhile, the A league is fielding a fourth Seattle
team to make six total. Perhaps it is the other way around, perhaps the A
league should take the lead of the B league. In reality, perhaps it
should be one big league with everyone playing everyone else using a
divisional structure. More competition is better competition!
