Fueled by the tireless leadership of
Lacrosse stalwart Mark Larson, Laxfest accommodated more than
500 people in the stands, in addition to the teams of players
on the field...
Mark Larson had this to say
about the event:
This year's Laxfest -
sponsored by the Washington Chapter of US lacrosse - stretched
around the clock from 9 AM to 9 PM. It was a glorious day of
lacrosse and a fitting end to a great season here in the
northwest. Laxfest included 12 games played on 3 fields at
the Mercer Island HS sports complex. By the end of the day
over 600 youth and adults players participated. The event
featured 3 women's games, 5 boys youth games, the WSBLA High
School boys all-stars, the Coaches against the Young Alums and
the PNLA Men's semi-finals.
The competition was good, but
the fellowship was better. Gathering players from every team
not only provided an opportunity to display Northwest lacrosse
talent, it served to build the relationships that make our
sport special.
A special thanks to all those
that volunteered to make this a special event. Steph Cone's
Seattle Girls school team kept everyone comfortable with great
food and concessions. Once again, Dave Anderson provide his
grill to feed the lax masses. Thanks to Breakaway Sports for
sponsoring our fastest shot competition and providing a Mikey
Powell autographed stick for our raffle. We are also indebted
to our other corporate sponsors: Walax, Washington Mutual,
Eddie Travers and Associates, Brine and First Tech Credit
Union. Special Thanks to WALOA and the ref's that volunteered
to help - gratis!. Many others helped along the way - Melissa
Coppess, Patrick Malone, Gail Shelton, Kelly Malone, Dan
Taylor, Kim York and many, many others. You all helped make
the event a great success. Until next year...
Of particular importance, the coaches
versus the Young Alums wound up a win for the young alums
finishing an exciting game with a 12-10 score. What will
happen for the rematch next year?
