"Goodbye to the Legend"

10 years ago a kid from Long Island named Ken Thornby joined Team Portland. 1994 was the year that Portland started the transition from good to great.  You cant help but try and pin point what was the turning point that helped elevate Portland in stature and status.  It was without question, Ken Thornby his leadership on the field and off the field was unmatched.  Never had Portland won the coveted Everett Smith Cup awarded to the A Division Champion.  From 1996 to 2001 Portland played in each championship game, with the exception of 1997. Portland won the Championship in1999 and 2001    going 12-0 in the 1999 season.  Ken, a defenseman anchored a phenomenal defense that became the core for the most dominant defense in the league.  In 2001, Ken was named defensive MVP of the league for his play.  His incredible speed and continual harassment of attackmen was legendary.  Ken is a four-time A division all-star selection and was recently inducted into Limestone Colleges hall of fame.

We will miss our friend, who will finish his final season with Portland and hopefully complete his career here in P-town with his third cup.  Ken is going to work for Reebok as the Senior Director for the NBA.  What will we do with all the adidas attire?  Thanks Ken, come back soon.

 Team Portland

Ken Thornby has been an integral part of the Men's Club League leadership and in the Pacific Northwest Lacrosse Association as a player.  Portland will not be the only team that misses Ken.  We all want to wish you congratulations and success in your new endeaver.
