The sun was shining as kids
arrived at the field as much as an hour early in
anticipation of meeting and learning from two
Lacrosse greats. Casey Powell and Todd Eichelberger
must have brought both the sun and their Lacrosse
enthusiasm with such uncharacteristic warmth on the
Mercer Island turf.
Casey Powell and Todd
Eichelberger were in town to show their support for
Washington Lacrosse by holding a benefit clinic in
support of the upcoming State Championships being
held at the Seahawks Stadium May 17th.
All net proceeds from this clinic are being donated
to this championship event. . What they may not
have planned on giving was inspiration to over 60
kids. Casey and Todd brought intensity and
excitement to warm-ups and line drills lasting all
day long.
After some good line drills,
station work ensued teaching the but-down/butt-down
ground balls and all the dodges in the book.
Watching these two guys demonstrate fine aspects of
basic skills was parable to running a finely-tuned
machine. Captivated by great split dodges and form
shooting clinics, everyone came away more capable of
handling the ball, executing a move, protecting
their stick, or shooting off-stick side with power.
After two hours of very close
attention, shooting, 1-on-1s and trick shots, kids
over 16 got an opportunity to play with the pros!!
Eichs and Casey graciously agreed to play and
enjoyed a game with much of Seattles young talent.
Two Lakeside attackmen came away with Kevlar sticks
courtesy of Warrior as did Goalie Nick Crowsen after
taking a shot in the leg from Eichs. Casey
demonstrated his magic stick tricks, making more
than one goalie completely lose the ball, much to
the adulation of the campers.
Both guys took the time to
talk about what its like being a professional LAX
player and how to accomplish those dreams of one day
playing professional Lacrosse. Casey and Todd
agreed Seattle has talented Lacrosse players with a
welcome positive attitude uninhibited by the egos
frequently seen on the other coast. Walax.com
thanks Warrior, Casey and Todd for sharing their
lacrosse spirit with Seattle and their commitment to
improving the game through benefits like supporting
the Washington State Lacrosse Championships. All
net proceeds from the clinic will be donated to the
Washington State Championships.
Which one of you will be the
next Casey Powell?
