On Saturday, November 1, representatives from PNLA club teams met in Olympia to discuss
the upcoming season. The following is what was agreed to and other random notes:
- The new Rainer Beer "A" team was voted into the league. The team has a core
group of 10-12 players already. If you are interested in joining the team, send email to
Chris Nichols or
Dave Waterman.
- The proposed "A" division schedule was approved as proposed. Each of the five
"A" teams will play each other 3 teams this year. The top four teams will make
the playoffs which are scheduled for June 6th and 7th in Portland.
If Portland is not one of the four teams to make the playoffs, the games will be moved to
Seattle.
- The issue of roster limits for "A" teams was discussed. It was agreed that
this was not practical, but each team also agreed that for the good of the league, each
team will strive to limit their rosters to 24 players for practical purposes. Each team
also agreed to refer good new players to the new Rainer Beer team.
- It was agreed that Andy Constance could resume play after serving his 3 game 1997
suspension.
- Unfortunately, after a tough 97 season, Lucky 7 will fold this year. The players left
from this team will merge with Tacoma, which also had troubles fielding a full squad last
year.
- A new "B" club team, Old Seattle Lacrosse Club, has been formed. This masters
team will play a limited schedule against Seattle based "B" teams.
- Mark Flood discussed the upcoming PNLA tournament. We are going to have to really crack
down on drinking beer outside the beer garden this year, or we risk loosing the sponsors.
Team captains will receive packets explaining the protocol for the tournament this year
that must be passed out to all players prior to playing. We are going to have to step up
and be a bit more mature about this, or risk loosing this great event.
- The "B" division made a change to their process for choosing the final four
for the season ending tournament. It will now be based on the overall win percentage
against other "B" teams, rather than the prior process of only counting the
second game played.
- Tournaments: Northwest players are invited to "tryout" for 2 great tournaments
in 1998, Vail over July 4th weekend and Tahoe over Labor Day weekend. Anyone
interested in being considered for the Vail tournament must let Mark Flood (503-285-9914)
know prior to the season start. Those interested in playing in the Tahoe - Labor Day
weekend should let
Matt Cone know prior to the PNLA tournament the
last weekend of April.
- A league social night is being organized for a Thnuderbirds game at the Key Arena for
some Friday or Saturday night in February. Stay tuned for details.
- Individual team schedules will be posted to team Web sites by the end of November. Team
rosters should be submitted to Walax.com by the end of the month for posting to the site.
- Statistics: It was agreed that team stats will be kept for the upcoming
season. Each team will be responsible for completing the "Submit Game Results"
form from the walax.com home page after each game. Each team will need to keep goals and
assists for the game and submit them by Monday afternoon. The site will be updated each
Tuesday with the following weekend results.
