RECAPS

DIVISION I

**Another thriller in the much awaited rematch between Bainbridge and Seattle Prep. Double overtime in this one and the exact same final score, just a different victor!

Early in the season, Bainbridge controlled much of the game until the Panthers went nuts in the 4th quarter, tied it and eventually won 9-8 in OT. This time the game was much more back and forth as neither team ever led by more than 2. Bainbridge led 4-2 at halftime and 6-4 at the end of three. Bainbridge was given a 3-minute penalty for an illegal stick in between quarters and Prep capitalized tying the game up 6-6. Bainbridge regained composure and went back up 8-6. Once again, the Panthers made a late charge scoring two goals in the final 3 minutes, the last by Adam Sangeorson to send the game to overtime.

Prep had their chance early in the first OT as Bainbridge took a penalty. The Spartans were able to kill it though and actually controlled most of the possession failing to finish on over half a dozen shots. Early in the second OT, the Spartans found Joe Picha open on the crease. Picha was able to dodge, finish and end it. Final score 9-8!

**A two-win week for Nathan Hale has kept the Raiders playoffs hopes alive. Hale took Prep to overtime back in March. If the Raiders can beat the Panthers by 2 goals or more this time around, Hale would then own the tie-break. The win would set up a chance to make the playoffs by beating Mercer Island on the final day of the season.

**Mercer Island showed very well on their trip east. On Saturday, the Islanders faced New York power Fayetteville-Manlius, currently ranked #22 in the nation in the latest LaxPower polls. The Hornets were also coming off of a huge 8-5 win over then #1 ranked West Genesee. The Islanders fell behind early 2-0, but bounced right back to take a 3-2, halftime lead. The Islanders then scored the first goal of the 2nd half to take their own two-goal lead. F-M stormed back scoring 5 straight before Mercer could find the net again. The final score was 7-5.

Sunday was a similar story. Islanders jumped to a 4-1 lead, but Albany Academy came back to take a halftime lead and pulled away in the 2nd half. The final score was 16-9. Nonetheless, a good showing and a tremendous experience for the Islanders!

DIVISION II

** A great week for Issaquah. The purple and gold started the week by avenging one of their only two losses this year. Jumping to a 4-0, halftime lead and leading 5-1 at the end of the 3rd, Issaquah was able to hold on for a big 6-4, win over Garfield. The win puts Issaquah all alone in 2nd place in the Evergreen Conference and sets up a huge rematch with Roughriders in the season finale for both.

Thursday, Issaquah knocked of Franklin 11-1 and then traveled to Bainbridge on a drizzly Friday night. Bainbridge came out strong winning nearly every early groundball and calmly finding people open on the crease. The Spartans led 3-1 after one. Bainbridge scored the first goal of the second quarter to push to a three-goal lead. The teams then alternated goals and Bainbridge had a 5-3 lead midway through the period. Issaquah had trouble clearing early, but a perfectly executed clear got the ball rolling as defenseman Dustin Cramer carried over and fed Jon Matusiefsky to cut it to 5-4. That seemed to be the spark they needed. A few minutes later Matusiefsky tied it 5-5 with 2:10 left on the clock. Not satisfied to go into the half tied, Issaquah scored twice more to take a 7-5 lead. Bainbridge would not score again until late in the 4th. Issaquah came out in the 2nd half and just continued to ride the surge of momentum in gained in the first half. The final whistle sounded 15-6 in favor of Issaquah!

**All sorts of shakeups in the bottom half of the playoff standings in Division II and several possible scenarios left. Well try and lay it out for you and put forth the most likely scenarios.

Eastlake: A huge two-win week as the Wolves avenged an early season loss to San Juan. They now sit in good position to grab a playoff spot, but have already lost to both teams remaining on their schedule. Two losses would leave Eastlake at 5-5 and depending on others to lose to grab the 8th seed. If the Wolves can knock of Mukilteo next, they will at least finish 6-4 and be guaranteed the 5th or more likely 6th seed.

Klahowya: Tough luck for the Eagles as the forfeiture of two games has dropped them down the standings. They finish the season with Vashon and need a win to guarantee a spot. Should they lose, theyll be 5-5 and hoping to cling to the 8th seed.

Garfield: Finish the season with Snohomish and Franklin. Need to win just one of the two to secure the 7th seed. Can move up to 4th seed with two wins and an Issaquah loss.

S. Kitsap: The other Wolves are benefactors of a forfeit win over Klahowya and now have a shot to finish as high as the 5th seed. They close the season with two teams they have already beaten, Tacoma and N. Kitsap. Two wins and they are guaranteed to be in the playoffs and will most likely be the 5th seed. A split and they will have to wait and see for the 8th seed. Two losses and they are out.

Mukilteo: Eastlake and San Juan left. The Mojo could claim the 5th seed with wins in both and a combination of Klahowya/S. Kitsap losses. Two wins will guarantee them the 6th spot though. A loss in either could be devastating, as 5-5 will most likely leave them out. The Pacific Conference has the weakest cross-conference record and thus would lose out in a tie-break.

San Juan: Still alive if they can get to 5-5, but must depend on others to lose.

TOP PERFORMERS

JON MATUSIEFSKY, JR, Attack, ISSAQUAHJon registered 3 goals and 6 assists in two league games this week to place him #1 overall in Division II scoring at 47 points. Matusiefsky leads Division II in assists with 29, 10 more than the next closest. Even more impressive has been his consistency: 47 points in 9 league games, 47 more in 9 non-league games for a total of 94 points on the season. Jon has developed into a complete attackman, learning to take what the defense gives him. On Friday, Bainbridges All-American candidate, Dylan Preble, did well to pressure Jon and keep him from his usual feeds, holding him to one assist. So, Jon took matters into his own hands, often leaving Preble behind on route to a tremendous 6 goal, 1 assist performance.

KEVIN WEITZ, SR, Attack, NATHAN HALE...Kevin notched 3 goals and 8 assists in 2 games helping lead the Raiders to two wins they had to have to keep their season alive. The 8 assists also moved Weitz into 2nd place overall in Division I in total assists for the season.

CHARLIE KENYON, SR, Attack, OVERLAKE...Kenyon busted out with his highest scoring performance of the season, 7 goals and 1 assist, to dash any thoughts Mukilteo entertained about challenging Overlake for 1st place in Division IIs Pacific Conference. Mukilteo had held Kenyon to 3 goals in the first match-up.

GARRETT JOHNSON, SO, Goal, ISSAQUAH...Johnson got off to a slow start this season hampered by a nagging foot injury. Just now hitting his game and finally facing a decent quantity of shots, Johnson stood tall in two big performances this week. Garrett stopped 8 of 12 shots in a 6-4 win over Garfield. Then he made 11 more saves, 9 in the 2nd half, to keep Bainbridge from any comeback hopes in Issaquahs 15-6 win.

GAMES TO WATCH

5/11 Eastlake @ Mukilteo Mukilteo took the first match-up. This one has playoff implications!

5/11 Nathan Hale @ Seattle Prep Prep won 15-14 in OT early season. Raiders can force Panthers to become huge Islander fans if Hale can pull this one out.

5/12 Bainbridge @ Eastside If Prep beats Hale the day before, a Raven win will create a deadlock between Bainbridge and Seattle Prep. A Spartan victory gives them the #1 seed in the Sound without a fuss.

5/13 Roughriders @ IssaquahEvergreen Conference title and #2 seed in the playoffs on the line in this one. This is quickly becoming one of the better rivalries around as last two times these two have met, the games have been decided by a single goal.
