THE WEEKLY BEATApril 12-April 17, 2004

 SCOREBOARD

RECAPS

Even shorter week makes for an even shorter beat.  Week two of the annual spring break lull, so little changed in the way of standings and statistical leaders.  In fact, over half of the games played this week were non-league affairs as the break gave several teams a chance to travel and/or play additional local non-league games.  The break does give us a chance to think ahead to the 2nd half of the season and thus begin taking a look at the playoff picture.

DIVISION I

**Nathan Hale, Bainbridge and Curtis were the only teams in action as all others Division I teams were on Spring Break.  Hale played two non-league contests splitting games against Issaquah and Garfield, but did pick up a league win over Curtis.

PLAYOFF PICTURE

           #2 Sound @ # 1 Mountain

DIVISION II

**Franklin picked up win #1 in 04.

** Klahowya outlasted S. Kitsap in a high scoring shootout.  The win keeps Klahowya unbeaten and keeping pace with Vashon.

 PLAYOFF PICTURE

Division II playoff chase is much murkier than Division I.  Things will become much clearer  as early as this week as the volume of games in Division II picks up.

Note:  #8 @ #1, #7 @ #2, #6 @ #3, #5 @ #4

 Teams seeded #1-#8 as follows:

#1- Conference Champion w/best record

#2- Conference Champion w/ 2nd best record

#3- Remaining Conference Champion

#4- Best 2nd place team

#5- Next best 2nd place team

#6- Remaining 2nd place team

#7- Best 3rd place team

#8- Next best 3rd place team

TOP PERFORMERS

RYAN MCFADDEN, JR, Attack, KLAHOWYAMcFaddens line for the week, 6g, 5ain one game!!!  The 11 point performance is a career high, a league high for the season and helped lead Klahowya to a wild 19-17 win over S. Kitsap.

JON MATUSIEFSKY, JR, Attack, ISSAQUAH...In Issaquahs 11 overall games, Matusiefsky has averaged 4.9 pts/gm due in large part to his 3.1 assists/game.  Yet, Jon was mired in a streak of 3 games without a goal himself.  This week, against Division I opponent Nathan Hale, Jon still notched his average 3 assists, but he also added 5 goals!  He added another goal and 4 more assists in two games against teams in Oregon for a total of 6g, 7a on the week.

JEREMY HIGUCHI, JR, Midfield, FRANKLIN...Higuchi doubled his previous 3 game point total by scoring a hat-trick plus one!  His 4 goal performance led the Quakers to their first win of the season, 9-8 over S. Kitsap.

GAMES TO WATCH

4/20 Issaquah @ RoughridersFirst place in Division IIs Evergreen Conference on the line.  Issaquah eliminated Roughriders from the playoffs a year ago.  Both teams have victories over Division I competition this season.

4/21 Eastside @ Nathan HaleBig one for the Raiders in looking to make a 2nd half push for a playoff spot.  Ravens have yet to lose to an opponent not named Mercer.

4/23 Seattle Prep @ Mercer IslandCan Mercer stay unbeaten or can the Panthers play spoilers?  Last time Prep played in The Jungle they were dismissed from the 03 playoffs with a 20-3 beating.

4/23 Klahowya @ VashonTwo unbeatens battle for first in the Olympic Conference.
