The lacrosse program at Bainbridge made a collective statement this week.  Despite a loss by the Division 3 squad, the Bainbridge program now has a combined record of 13-3.  The Division 1 and 2 teams are both undefeated and sitting atop their respective divisions.

Beside the top two Spartan squads, Curtis and Issaquah also remain undefeated.  Only three teams still looking for division

win #1.  Some big scores, some big performances…here we go!

Highlights

DIVISION 1

·        Bainbridge made a big statement as to who the best team is in 2002!  The Spartans defeated both the 2nd and 3rd place teams this week to take a commanding lead on 1st place.  The Spartan’s overall experience and depth has really shown through in their 6-0 start.  Everyone knows of Adam Smith’s exploits, but the stats show just how much of a TEAM the Spartans truly are.  Smith is the only Bainbridge player in the top 15 in scoring, yet Bainbridge has scored 82 goals on the season.  Smith only has 14 of those although he has assisted on 15 more.  Defensively, they have only allowed a division low 22 goals against!  In two games this week, the stat line reads David Vanderhoek (5g, 1a), Spencer Evans (4g, 1a), Adam Smith (3g, 2a), Tyler Bural (4g), Sam Cameron

(3g, 1a).  There is no one top performer, but rather just one top team!!!

DIVISION 2

·        The story is much the same in Division 2 as Bainbridge’s other squad has also surged ahead with 2 commanding wins.  They now sit at 5-0 atop the division.  The Spartans were lead by Neal Batemen (6g, 3a) and Trevor Charles (5g, 3a) in the two games this week.

·        The Panthers have surged back into a 2nd place position with two big wins.  After an early season loss and a stretch of non-divisional games, the Panthers have made adjustments and seem to be on track.  All-State defender Tyler Carr has moved into midfield to help bolster the offense and his 6 goals this week certainly helped.

·        Eastside has hit the skids a bit with three straight divisional losses.  Jack Andrews continues to lead Division 2 in scoring but it hasn’t been enough to help the Ravens knock off a top team.

DIVISION 3

·        Curtis played as many games this week as they had all season.  The win over Port Angeles dethroned yet another unbeaten.  The result- Curtis is now 4-0 scoring a division high 56 goals.  The Vikings are putting the hurt on opponents winning games by an average of over 8 goals a game.  The duo of Anderson and Gibbon has yet to be derailed.

·        Despite another non-divisional loss, Issaquah kept its division record clean with a big win over Mt. Ranier.  Issaquah has only allowed 18 goals in 5 division games.  A big reason why is Zach Grote in goal.  Grote has a division high 52 saves with a .776 save percentage and a 3.00 goals against average!

Top Performers

bulletNick Heilbrunn, Panthers- Senior, Defense

Heilbrunn proved that in the “year of the attackman”, there is still plenty of room for defense!  Heilbrunn shut down the division’s leading scorer, Jack Andrews, in helping the Panthers to a big win over Eastside.  In five other division games this season, Andrews has averaged over 6 pts a game.  Against Heilbrunn, Andrews scored 1 goal.  Nick played superbly with several take-away checks and registering double digits in groundballs (10).  If that wasn’t enough, he helped the Panthers defense shut out Maple Valley a few days later.

bulletJon Matusiefsky, Issaquah- Freshman, Attack

Only a freshman, Jon’s unselfish play has proved big for Issaquah.  This week he registered 2 goals and 6 assists in a win over Mt. Ranier.  He now leads the division in assists with 11, three more than the next closest assist man.  Jon is also tied for 8th (with two teammates) in goals and sits 4th overall in points.  The 6 assists and 8 points were both career highs for Jon, albeit it his high school career is just getting started.

·        Tom Gibbon, Curtis- Attack

Gibbon has registered a hat-trick in all four games for the Vikings this season.  This week he had two double

hat-trick performances!!!  12 goals and 2 assists in all, for the week, helped Curtis to two more wins.  Tom now leads Division 3 in goals (21), points (25) and points per game (6.25)!

Games to Watch

bullet4/16     Lakeside @ Port Angeles

The Riders can’t afford another loss to Lakeside if they plan on battling the Lions for a playoff spot!

bullet4/16     Panthers @ Franklin

Big battle for 2nd place in Division 2!!!

bullet4/20     Port Angeles @ Bellevue

Can Bellevue stay on a roll?  This might be a must win game for the Riders should they fall to Lakeside.
