Week Five:

Week in Review:

After a week off from anything too unusual, the waters were stirring once again in both divisions.

  • The Panther Lacrosse Club continues to be a pleasant surprise!  After 2 more victories, including somewhat of a surprising win over Franklin, the Panthers now sit at 3-1 and in second place in the "B" division.

  • Vashon and Curtis both picked up their first wins of the season, removing their names from the list of winless teams.  Curtis threw in a second win for good measure and now sits at 2-1.

  • The talk in the "A" league has centered around the rapid improvement of the Bellevue Wolverines.  Though they have still yet to win a game, the young guns pushed the mighty defending state champs to the brink with a 13-12 game.  Bainbridge was also put to the test by the boys from Maple Valley, staving off defeat with a 7-6 overtime victory.

  • Lakeside chalked up two more in the win column and after an opening loss to Maple Valley has run off 5 in a row.  Their 5 wins are two better than any other "A" division team at the moment, although Bainbridge has yet to lose at 3-0.

  • Coach Olney was successful in his first match-up with his old team as Lakeside prevailed over Nathan Hale 13-7.

 “Game of the Week” recap:

Bainbridge A @ Maple Valley A

Although the Vandals fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, I'm sure no one expected the boys from Maple Valley to take the 7 time state champs to overtime!  Apparently the Vandals are for real and the two time "B" Division champs appear ready to take a shot at the "A" division cup.

Maple Valley actually had the lead 5-3 heading to the fourth!  Credit Bainbridge for battling back.  Adam Smith capped a huge individual performance ending the contest with 22 seconds left in OT.  A heartbreaker for Maple Valley, but a preview of good things to come!

Top Performers of the Week:

  • Adam Smith, Bainbridge Island. The junior attackman is currently averaging 8pts a game after two huge performances this week.  Smith went 5g and 1a including the overtime winner against Maple Valley and followed that up with a 6g, 3a performance against Bellevue.  In only 3 games, Smith has taken over the scoring lead with 24 points on 16 goals and 8 assists.

  • Brandon Deal, Bellevue Brandon proved he is the "real" Deal with a 5 goal, 3 assists performance against perennial power Bainbridge. With 12 goals and 5 assists on the season, Deal is helping to lead a young, yet much improved Bellevue squad.  If he has anything to say about it, the Wolverines will earn their first victory shortly

  • Eric Weitz & Michael Lowther, Nathan Hale The duo each went 4g, 1a in helping Nathan Hale to their first victory of the season, a 11-9 win over Bellevue.

Preview of Upcoming Week:

Keep an Eye On…..

  • Maple Valley A @ Lakeside: should be the best game of the week!  Can the Lions get revenge andcontinue the winning streak?  Or can the Vandals bounce back from a tough OT loss and knock off Lakeside once again?

  • Eastside, Bellevue, Roosevelt,….still looking for win #1 in 2001.
