Eastside 8 - Bainbridge A 11

Eastside Recap: What if..what if..what if???  What if Eastside had finished a couple goals earlier in the ball game?  What if we didn't dig ourselves 5-0 and 7-1 holes? What if a shot falls to cut it to 10-9???  Who knows? Bainbridge came out rolling scoring 7 seconds into the game and took a 5-0 lead at the end of one and 7-1 lead by half.  Again Bainbridge capitalized on poor clearing and good transition play.  Eastside finally began to find the net in the 3rd quarter.  Senior defenseman, Ryan Birchler played a great game and got the ball rolling a bit sprinting all the way from his own end and sticking his first career goal.  Yet Bainbridge scored 3 in the period as well and lead 10-!

4 going into the 4th.  Things looked bleek, but somehow Eastside found life.  Justin Patterson began saving everything, Marcus Ohno again came up big against Bainbridge and reserve Lee Watterson came off the bench and provided a little spark as his assist to Ohno helped cut the lead to 10-8 with about 4 minutes to play.  East

Port Angeles 11 - Franklin 3

Port Angeles Recap: The Riders put it all together tonight when it counted, in the Semi-Finals.  We cmae out on the top of our game and scored 5 unanswered goals in the first and three in the second before Franklin was able to get on the board with two before the end of the half. The second half settled down with good ball control and defense by both teams, but with the Riders prevailing.  Congratulations to Franklin on an outstanding season.  You were very patient with your offense but our D just didn't give you many good scoring opportunities. Look forward to playing you again, we always hve great matches.  Kudos to an outstanding officiating crew (McFie, Koransky, and Farringt!

on.) Hardly noticed you guys were there; how it should be!

Panthers Lax Club Recap: WOW!  Great game from begining to the end by both teams. Story of the game for the Panthers was Joe Grant our Goalie. Joe received 35 shots, made 21 saves and only let in one goal! Even the refs were lobbying the Panther coach to give Joe the game ball!

Bellevue 6 - Eastside 7

Bellevue Recap: It was an exciting finish to the 2001 season, and in many ways the game told the story of our season.  We had strong defense led by seniors David Blethen and Eric Heilman, but our offense was inconsistent.  Bellevue led 4-2 at the end of one quarter with each attackman getting at least one goal.  Eastside battled back with a couple second quarter goals to tie the game at halftime.  Bellevue again took the lead in the third by finding the goal twice.  Unfortunately that was the last Bellevue offense of the game.  Eastside popped three quick goals early in the fourth and each defense turned back repeated attacks to end the game 7-6 Eastside.  Bellevue finished the season low in!

the rankings but in good spirits and will graduate only two players.  As our offense matures, we look to come out strong in 2002.

Thanks to all the players in the league for a well-played season.

Eastside 7 - Bellevue 6

Eastside Recap: Despite taking an early two goal lead, the boys in couldn't seem to find their flow and it showed.  Bellevue quickly responed with 4 unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead at the end of one quarter.  Eastside fought to tie it at 4 by half.  In the 3rd, Bellevue capitalized on a man-up play as Eastside's defense went to sleep and the Wolverines lead 6-4.  Realizing their season was on the line, freshman Jack Andrews and Senior Matt Sinkula lead an early 4th quarter surge and 3 quick goals put Eastside back up 7-6.  The last 9 minutes of the game was back and forth, the ball spent much time on the ground.  Eastside couldn't put it away and Bellevue couldn't find the equalizer. Eastside hung on and found its way to the playoffs with their 3rd straight do or die win!

Port Angeles 13 - Curtis 7

Port Angeles Recap: The relatively inexperienced Roughriders are finding out how difficult it is to stay on top and remain undefeated. Curtis came to play and the game was a fine finish to an excellent regular season.  The Riders got on the board first and edged out to a 2-0 lead, but Curtis wouldn't let themselves be put away through excellent shooting.  The game was iced for PA, however, midway through the fourth on an extremely athletic play by Ryan Weed leaping high to catch a feed from Chris Johnson and turning 180 degrees in midair and finishing with a quick stick score. Great play, great officiating, and a great crowd made for an outstanding game.

Eastside 7 - Maple Valley A 5

Eastside Recap: The biggest keys to this game had to be ball control and execution.  Freshman Jack Andrews once again came up big against Maple Valley with his best performance of the year.  Moving the ball perfectly out double-teams, Andrews had two great assists in the 1st quarter and would add a goal himself later in the 3rd.  Matt Sinkula played big as usual with 2 more assists and a pretty left-handed finish.  In the 2nd quarter, things began to get a little chippy, but Eastside kept composure and executed 2 perfect man-up plays to capitalize.Early in the 4th, Eastside executed its best fat-break of the year and Scott McCann stood tall, absorbed a hit and still finished, the biggest goal of his career!  John Trenkamp and the rest of the defense did a much better job controlling Brian Johnson this time around.  Good doubles, backside help and some of Trenkamps patented back-checks helped frustrate Johnson throughout the evening.

Maple Valley A 5 - Eastside 7

Maple Valley A Recap: Patience is a virtue.  And that was never more apparent than last night when Eastside's patient offense controlled the ball and the clock for much of the game.  The 7-5 score does not truly reflect how solid the Eastside win was - they were never really threatened, despite the fact that MV won 10 of 16 faceoffs.  MV's Brian Johnson and Travis Cornelison led the Vandal offense with 2 goals each and middie Nick Johnson connected with brother Ryan Johnson for the fifth goal.  Eastside's goalie, Justin Patterson, frustrated the Vandalls all night with solid saves and clearing passes.

Maple Valley B 6 - Vashon 1

Maple Valley B Recap: Great game on a beautiful day on the Island.  Vashon came out early to score the first goal and MV answered with it's own goal by Brice Cline with two minutes left.  First quarter score 1-1.  The second quarter MV gained momentum adding three more goals, two of them actually had assists which is what MV had been striving for the second half of the season.  The second half MV scored two more goals to finish the game at 6-1.  Hats off to Vashon who had a limited number of relief on the sideline but never let up the entire game.  End to end they pushed for four quarters.

MV finishes the year just under .500.  A better than fair first season for 30 'virgin' players and five wiley veterans with one year experience.

Port Angeles JV 2 - Mercer Island JV 7

Port Angeles JV Recap: Port Angeles JV vs Mercer Island JV.  Great day for lacrosse at Mercer Island and another great learning experience for the young Riders.  This is the first time we faced a pressure defense at the JV level, and our kids did a remarkable job holding onto the ball even though we never really did get many good scoring opportunities from our offense. We played much better in the second half, and our defense, led by goalie Trevor Warren, held the Islanders to only a single goal. Thanks for a great game, MI, and we look forward to long association in the future.

Eastside Recap: Eastside kept its playoff hopes alive with a scrappy victory over Overlake.  Lots of penalties and the ball spent much time on the ground allowing little flow to the game.  However, the team in black fought it out and won a little revenge having lost to Overlake early in the season.  Having gone pointless in the first match-up, Brady Lynch took matters into his own hands this time around scoring more himself than the entire Overlake team.  Matt Sinkula dominated face-offs and stuck a few himself.  The prettiest goal of the day belonged to John Trenkamp as the defenseman raced the length of the field and stuck a quickstick to the corner off a give and go from Jack Andrews.

Eastside Recap: Lack of finishing on the few good attempts Eastside created for themselves allowed Bainbridge to gradually creep away and put the game away by the 3rd quarter.  Eastside played fairly well defensively 6on6, but poor clearing and offensive turnovers lead to way too many fast break/unsettled situations that Bainbridge gladly capitalized on.

Maple Valley B 5 - Bellevue JV 8

Maple Valley B Recap: Maple Valley held true to it's latest form striking early and flattening out mid game.  Bellevue JV held on early and posted a great come back to keep the game close at halftime.  Maple VAlley scored three goals in the final quarter to end the game at 8-5.  Above average Vandal performances were posted by the entire long stick defense holding Bellevue to only 8 shots on goal and to the offense also for posting over 40 shots.  Time to practice accuracy!  The best preformances of the day, by far, were posted by the Bellevue goaltenders who only let in 8 goals on alot of shots.  Congrats to Bellevue on a great game.

Vashon 2 - Port Angeles 18

Vashon Recap: The Roughriders showed Vashon why they remain undefeated. PA is rock-solid on defense and their offense is a well-oiled machine. PA took advantage of each Vashon mistake, and regretably, there were many of them. Nevertheless, Vashon played with heart to the end. Good luck to PA in the playoffs.

Port Angeles 18 - Vashon 2

Port Angeles Recap: The pre-game deluge stoppped just in time for a beautiful evening to play lacrosse.  Vashon is a class program with players who work very hard on the field.  They have improved considerably since our first meeting.  Its just hard to stay in the game when your consistently going up against fresh lines.  The Riders ran their offense well and had good balanced scoring coupled with a solid defense and transition game. Congratulations to Tyler Johnson on his first goal as a Roughrider.
