B Bracket Finals

Maple Valley 7 - Nathan Hale 6

BI A View: In the most exciting championship game in recent memory, Maple Valley successfully defended its B Division title with a 7-6 win over Nathan Hale in sudden death overtime.  Congratulations Hale on a truly great season.  You looked and played like champions all year!  You were well coached and played disciplined lacrosse at both ends of the field.  But this year the fat lady sang for the Vandals of Maple Valley. Hale started off strong with goals by Eric Weitz and Stephen Heller, but MV answered with goals from attackmen Josh Staudt and Brian Johnson to tie it up.  Then, with 2 seconds left in the quarter, MV took the lead with an outside high shot by Johnson.  Hale answered quickly in the
second with a goal by Ben Morris.  Four minutes later co-captain Andy Scanlon put MV back on top with a drive and shot on goal.  Michael Lowther quickly answered with his only score and two minutes later Hale took the lead on Heller's second goal of the game.  Leading 5-4 at half, Hale played hard throughout the 3rd quarter, extending its lead to 2 goals on Heller's third unassisted goal of the day.  In the fourth, Hale attempted to play a settled offense, but the Vandals kept the pressure on and Hale committed 4 of its 8 penalties in the final period.  With six minutes left in the game, junior Travis Cornelison scored on an outside shot.  One goal behind, MV kept the pressure on and, with 32 seconds left in the game, sophomore Brian Johnson tied it up.  Maple Valley won the face-off and promptly ignored the settled plays called for by
the coaches.  Brian Johnson took a feed from midfield, beat his defenseman, and notched MV's second championship in as many years with his 4th goal of the game.  MV's goalie, Nate Holstein, finished the day with 11 saves, while the defensive work of co-captain Cody Kunning and juniors Weston Butt, Adam Running, and Robbie Totten kept the high scoring Hale attack under control.
Kudos to all 38 MV players, 28 rookies and 10 second year players.  You worked hard from day one and never quit trying to improve!  In its first two seasons, the Vandals have won two championships with a combined record of 25 and 3.  This year 6 Vandals received league recognition: co-captain Andy Scanlon, All-Division First Team Attack;  junior Travis Cornelison, All-Division First Team Midfield and Vail All-Star Team; co-captain Isaac Pulkinnen, All-Division First Team Midfield;  junior
Weston Butt, All-Division First Team Defense;  Nathan Holstein, All-Division First Team Goalie and Vail All-Star Team;  and junior Adam Running, All-division Second Team Defense.  Congratulations gentlemen! Next year, Maple Valley will field teams in both the A and B Divisions. Thanks for a great season everyone!

B Bracket Semi-Finals

Maple Valley 8 - Port Angeles 1

MV View: MV traveled to PA and came away with a hard fought 8-1 victory in the B semi-finals.  The Vandals played with more discipline than in recent
games and slowly pulled away, leading 2-1 after one quarter and 4-1 at the half.  Sophomore Brian Johnson led the offense with 4 goals and 1
assist while Nate Holstein had 10 saves in goal.  Junior defenseman Weston Butt led the D with 4 ground balls, 2 takeaways and 1 shot.  PA -
you have a great team and played well all season.  You will only be better next year!

Nathan Hale 13 - Franklin 5

Hale  view:  With only 12 hours rest Nathan Hale had to come out strong in the second half to beat Franklin and win the division title and a home playoff
game.  Hale was very flat and Franklin took advantage by taking a 3-2 lead into halftime.  Eric Weitz sparked the Hale comeback with great clears, cuts and one on one goals. Hale had some great team and individual achievements:  11-2 overall record and the division title.  Two A league victories, two 19 goal games, 172 goals for and 91 goals against with 91 assists.  Team GPA over 3.0.  Seven 10 goal scorers:  Jeff Haines 34g-39a (Vail All-Star),
Michael Lowther 30g-10a (Vail All-Star), Stephan Heller 23g-2a, Ben Morris 22g-8a, Evan Snyder 18g-8a (Vail All-Star), Eric Weitz 15g-6a, Andy Denzel 11g-9a. Lacrosse and Academic scholarship for Sherandoa Benitez (Vail All-Star) to Swarthmore.  Fun and outstanding sportsmanship at every game!

Curtis 11 - Bellevue 10

Curtis  view:  WHAT A GAME!  This was one of those contests where you hate to see either team lose.  Bellevue came from behind in the final minutes to tie the game.  It took double overtime for Curtis to get the ball to Ian Strand who put one in for the win.  Kyle Holland spent his second night in goal and had some great saves.  Ryan McCloskey waited four years on defense and finally became the guy he loves to hate.  Taking the ball from behind the goal he drove the length of the field, cranked off a shot and just caught the upper corner far side.  Thank you Bellevue for a great hard fought lacrosse game

Bellevue View:  Keeper Matt Stanley kept us in this exciting double OT game.  Thanks Curtis.

Nathan Hale 8 - Maple Valley 5

Hale  view:  Nathan Hale pulled off the road upset going to Maple Valley to up end the first place team 8-5.  The tough road victory set Hale up for a shot
at first place in the division.  Jeff Haines had 4 goals and an assist. Hale bolted ahead 4-0 and then played a smart patient game to secure the victory.  John Hanna had a great game on defense along with the solid goaltending of Ryan Garrett.  Doa Benitez controlled the middle of the field and Evan Snyder won most of his faceoffs

MV View:  MV hosted Hale last night and suffered its first ever loss at home.  A very disciplined and well coached Raider team came out fast and furious,
taking a4 - 0 lead in the first quarter.  The Vandals scored two unanswered goals in the 2nd, but Hale's ball control and ball movement proved just too much for MV as the game was never in doubt for  Hale.  As the frustration grew, MV committed numerous penalties which kept Hale's offense on the field and
man-up.  Great game Hale!  Good luck in the playoffs;  hopefully we will see you in the finals and give you a better game.

Eastside 8 - Mercer Island  7

Eastside View:  Despite giving up the first goal of the game, Eastside came out fired up and pushed to a 5-2 1st quarter lead.  Junior John Trenkamp was all over
the field igniting Eastside's defense and sparking a few transition oppurtunies, even notching a goal himself.  The pace of the game slowed a bit in the second half and despite good ball control from MI, Justin Patterson kept the door closed and Trenkamp notched another goal!  The game headed to the 4th with Eastside up 8-3.  The first part of the 4th quarter looked to be more of the same, but this game was far from over. With about 4:30 to play a couple Eastside penalties gave MI the chance they needed and the took advantage.  They notched a couple quick goals
and then scored again with :54 left on the clock to cut it to 8-6. Eastside appeared to win the following faceoff, but scrappy play kept the ball alive.  MI gained possession and looked to go to the goal
quickly.  Shot-score-:24 seconds left- the crowd was in a frenzy.  Eastside had just enough left to scrap and kill the final :24 and thwart MI's valliant comeback.  Great Game, Great Crowd, a beautiful day for lacrosse- the regular season ended with some excitement!  Good luck in the playoffs.

Overlake 11 - Curtis 4

Curtis  view:  Doesn't get much uglier than this game.  Two 15 minute "weather" delays for lightening, hail and RAIN turned this one into an awfully long afternoon.  Tied at one, we stopped for lightening.  Curtis scored again to make it 2-3 and we stopped again.  Never got back the momentum.  Hats off to Kyle Holland for "volunteering" to be Curtis' sixth goalie of the season

Eastside 8 - Bellevue 2

Eastside  view:  Eastside came out strong and firing, but couldn't finish.  Bellevue hung tough out playing Eastside in the 2nd quarter to pull to a 4-2 halftime
score.  Finally Eastside  began settling the offense a bit more and putting their shots on cage.  The combination of Sinkula, Twining and Dwyer controlled most of the faceoffs.  Sinkula also lead the offense with 4G and had a fifth taken away on an illegal screen call.  Junior Marcus Ohno stepped it up and notched his first career goal and added a second in the 4th quarter for good measure.  Trenkamp had several take away checks and Dwyer had a strong night clearing the ball, chipping in with an assist to Lynch.

Maple Valley 9 - Port Angeles 7

MV  view:  Thank you P.A. for a hard fought game.  MV started fast with 3 quick goals, but P.A. re-grouped and the first half finished with MV leading 4-3.  Both teams continued to alternate between good lacrosse and sloppy play in the second half, with MV prevailing 9 - 7.  MV scoring was led by Andy Scanlon (3g, 2a) and Isaac Pulkinnen (2g, 1a).  Junior Robbie Totten had his best game on defense and led the team with 3 takeaways and several key checks.  As always, PA hosts a great game with a great crowd.

PA View:  Always a tough and exciting game when we get together with Maple Valley. We came out very flat during the first period and let the top team in the B Division jump out to a 3-0 lead. From there on it was an outstanding contest with the Riders pullng close and the Vandals pulling ahead right when they needed to.  Just ran out of time in the fourth quarter. Hard fought and exciting game. Great game for us considering the effects school wide crud (especially the coach) and perturbations in the division has caused us this week.  We're ready for the playoffs and look forward to playing the Vandals again this year.  Also, 5th quarter great for the rookies.

MI  view:

Curtis View:  Hey, M.I, that was actually fun.  Don't know if you guys had a good time or not, but we did.  Thanks.  Phil Kim, second shot of the whole season
and it goes in.  Steve Collins, playing defense for two years, throw him in at long stick middie and he scores.  Two hat tricks on attack, one at middie and Ian Strand scores two and dishes out four sweet assists. Curtis only had five penalties, and four of them were for offsides. Bottom line, everyone got to play and that is what this game is all about

Eastside 6 - Overlake 5

Eastside  view:  A fairly sloppy game.  The ball seemed to be on the ground an awful lot. Teams scrapped back and forth and Overlake forged ahead 5-4 at the end of 3 quarters.  But, Eastside showed some fight and clawed back as Matt Sinkula was finally able to find the net and Eastside held on for a 6-5victory.  Freshman Loren Thomas came through huge with his first career goal and John Trenkamp had big game in frustrating Overlake's Waite.

Port Angeles 12 - Bainbridge island B 6

PA  view:  Important game with big playoff implications for the Roughriders. Riders jumped out with the first score only to have BB pop back with a
tying goal seconds later. The remainder if the first half we were able to stay on top scoring two for each of BB's goals.  With a 7-3 halftime lead we tried to work on our offensive sets and defensive fundamentals in the second half, but Bainbridge made it tough, continuing to come atus. Big factor was winning 17 of 22 faceoffs with Jim Baumstark comming up with 14 of 17. We still need to work on passing and ground balls tobecome a quality team. 5th quarter for the new kids was received well by
those players and their parents, and gave all the rookies a chance to show what they have learned this year. We need to do more of that next
year. Bainbridge is a class act with knowledgable fans, and the game calls over the stadium PA system really impressed my kids and our baseball team which was playing on the adjacent field. Maybe some of those ! kids will join me next year.

BI A  view:

Curtis View:  In the last minute of the game it came down to a one on one between each teams best player.  Ian Strand drove from the mid field line, put a shot on the ground and it skipped between Mike Penn's stick and feet.  Sure the score at that point was 15-1, but it was not a shut out.

Maple Valley 15 - Franklin 4

MV  view:  Thank you Franklin for a hard fought game.  The score does not reflect how hard you played for all 4 quarters.  But the MV shooters got hot with Brian Johnson scoring 5 goals on six shots and Isaac Pulkinnen   coring 4 on 6 shots.  Weston Butt led the defense with a team high 9 ground balls while he and Adam Running each had 2 takeaways.  Rookie goalie Mark Louvier finished out the game, making 2 saves on 4 shots while starter Nate Holstein had 9 saves on 10 shots on goal.

Nathan Hale 14 -  Kitsap 9

Hale  view:  Nathan Hale took care of business at Kitsap.  Record breaking 8 goal game from Stephan Heller including the natural hat trick.  Longstick
middie goal from Forrest Longman, his first of his career.  6 assist game from Jeff Haines.  Score was 14-5 at the end of the third period.

Kitsap View:  We were able to muster fourteen players for this Home Game to Hale's 28; thanks for coming over.  Hale jumped to an early lead and out gunned us throughout the game; but, we are glad to have had the opportunity to play them.

Lakeside 12 - Eastside 4

Lakeside  view:

Eastside View:  Eastside came out and showed much better this time around.  Matt Sinkula stepped it up and notched 2 first half goals to help Eastside stay
close. The score was 6-3 at half and Eastside blew a few opputunities to make it closer as well as giving up the 6th goal inside 30 seconds left in the half.  Eastside hung tough in the 3rd quarter, but Lakeside
simply had too much firepower and by the 4th quarter Eastside had nothing left.  Lakeside looked sharp in transition and finished off Eastside 12-4 despite a big effort in goal from Justin Patterson.  Conor Harty was able to net his first career goal late in the 4th for Eastside

5/2

Nathan Hale 19 -  Port Angeles 12

Hale  view:  After a slow start, Nathan Hale outscored P.A. 9-1 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.  Jeff Haines continued his torrid scoring with a 12 point game, 6g and 6a, a Nathan Hale record for assists, goals and total points!  Ben Morris added 3a to his one goal.  Hat tricks from
Alex Wells, Eric Weitz and Michael Lowther.  Rookie goal, his second of the year, from Nate Koppleman.

PA View:  The outcome of a contest will not be what you expect if you don't do the things that bring you success. Trying to get into a shootout with the
most prolific scoring team in the division is not PA's forte. Although it seems our offense has started to do some things better, it looks like its back to the fundamentals of defense.  My congratulations to a
disciplined and talented Hale team, whose execution this evening was superb.  Hope we get a chance to offer you a better game in the playoffs.

Eastside  view:  Kudos to the defense for pitching a shutout.  Justin Patterson had 12 saves to complete the goose egg.  Both offenses seemed content to stand and pass.  Eastside had a few spurts and managed to stick a few in. Matt Sinkula went 7/8 on faceoffs and led the offense with 2g, 1a

Curtis View:  "Ugh, again."  Working with out fifth goalie of the season was tough tonight.  Hats off to Joe Bowers for stepping in the cage.  He had some
good saves but Eastside was able to get a bunch in.  Curtis finally settled the ball down on offense, however the shot selection was not all that great.  Plenty of hustle on ground balls and good middie defense prevented this from being even uglier. Thanks for the game ELC, good luck with the rest of your season.

Not sure if the rest of my starters would have helped or not.  When you only take three shots in the first half, it is sort of hard to get in the game.  Ryan McCloskey spent his second game in goal, and he hopes it is his last.  He had some good saves, but he really much happier playing long stick, not goalie.  Frustration led to some hitting in the third
quarter, but both teams cleaned it up pretty quick.  My players got pretty hot at the end of the game as, apparently, one of the Bainbridge long sticks was talking smack to me (I didn't hear it...).  Hey, your up
12-0, no need to talk trash to the coaches...  Good game Bainbridge. Maybe next time we'll bring our whole team and you can bring some decent weather.

Maple Valley 13 -  Bainbridge Island B 8

MV view:  Thank you Bainbridge B for a well played game.  The teams combined for only 1 slash, 1 hold, and two technical fouls.  The first quarter was exciting with both teams seemingly scoring at will and MV taking a 5-4 lead into the 2nd.  MV then settled down and outscored BI 6 to 2 in the 2nd and
3rd quarters.  BI never quit, however, and played tough in the 4th, scoring two fast break goals.  MV's Andy Scanlon continuted to show he is back from his bronchitis, scoring 5 goals on 9 shots, while Travis Cornelison continuned to play well at midfield, winning all 8 of his face-offs and scoring 4 goals on 8 shots.  Other scoring came from Brian Johnson, Jon Clark, and Isaac Pulkkinen.  The defense was led by co-captain Cody Kunning (2 ground balls and 3 takeaways), Robbie Totten, and Adam Running.  All 37 MV players got playing time, including rookie goalie Mark Louvier.  Good luck with the rest of your season, BI-B.

Kitsap 15 -  Burien 6

Kitsap view:  Awindy, wet and cold weather coupled with absent players due to previous injuries and illness on both teams took their toll.  There were only 11 players present for each team and everyone played.  The score was Kitsap 5, Burien 4 at the half.  After that Kitsap pulled away.  There were lots of shots and both goalies had their work cut out for them. It was a good workout for everyone. Thanks, Burien

Maple Valley 7 -  Curtis 3

MV view:  Thank you Curtis for a hard fought game.  The score does not indicate how evenly the teams played thru much of the game.  It didn't help Curtis to have their best offensive player hobbled with a bad wheel. MV's Andy Scanlon, finally recovering from bronchitis, had his best game ever, however, with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Other scoring came from
attackman Brian Johnson and middies Issac Pulkinnen and Travis Cornelison.  Nate Holstein had another fine game in goal with 18 saves on 21 shots.  The defensive unit of Cody Kunning, Adam Running, and Robbie Totten combined for 7 ground balls and 6 takeaways.  MV appears to be refocused again after a distracting two weeks with illness, senior projects, and Camp Casey duty.  Good luck with the rest of your season Curtis!

Curtis View:  The Vandals came to University Place and flat out took it to Curtis.  No excuses from Curtis, we got beat on ground balls and Maple Valley's goalie had some great saves.  Ryan McCloskey stepped into goal for the injured Mike Rice, had some great saves, and remained true to his crease
defense tradition by getting a penalty.  Curtis came out in the second half and scored a quick three to get within one but the wheels fell off the bus at that point and Maple Valley just kept going.  Thanks for the game Maple Valley.  Good luck with the rest of your season.

 Bainbridge Island A 11 -  Eastside 8

Eastside view:  Eastside took its first loss of the year as Bainbridge played patient and smart eventually wearing down Eastside in the 4th quarter.  The teams played fairly even in the first half although Eastside had trouble clearing the ball and Bainbridge seemed to set the tempo playing very patient on offense.  However, Eastside made up for it with plenty of
hustle and a good ride, taking advantage of a couple Bainbridge miscues to notch a couple goals.  A couple of patented Bayly goals put Eastside up 4-3 at half. Even so, Eastside never really found a good rhythym and it showed in the 3rd quarter.  Playing man down most of the quarter Eastside was lucky to be tied 6-6 at the end of three.  The start of the 4th was the end for Eastside.  Bainbridge capitalized on a 3 minute stick penalty and jumped to and 8-6 lead.  Eastside deflated a bit and Bainbridge notched 3 more in a 3 minute stretch to push to a 11-6 lead with just about 5 minutes to play.  Eastside showed a little fire at the end pulling two back but it wasn't enough.  Great Game Bainbridge, we will see you again real soon.

Maple Valley 6 -  Nathan Hale 5

Maple Valley view:  Thanks for a great game Nathan Hale!  6-5 overtime win!  Hale showed a lot of skill at every position, but the MV players never gave up.  MV took an early lead on two goals by Travis Cornelison and one by Isaac Pulkkinen.  But Hale stormed back with 3 goals in the last minute of the
first quarter.  The scored stayed tied going into the half when MV's goal by Cornelison at the horn was disallowed.  By the end of the third quarter, Hale held a 5 - 4 lead.  But midway thru the 4th quarter, MV's Andy Scanlon tied the game on a feed from middie Jon Clark.  For the second game in a row, MV was faced with sudden death overtime.  Hale won the face-off and got off a good shot, but goalie Nate Holstein made the last of his 28 saves and the fast break was on.  At Hale's restraining line, Jon Clark fed attackman Brian Johnson who drove past his man and put a low shot into the net.  Hale's Michael Lowther was largely unstopable, scoring 4 of NH's goals.  But MV's Cornelison answered with three of his own.  Despite the hard hitting, MV again had fewer personal fouls (2) than its opponent (3).

Curtis 8 -  Bellevue 7

Curtis view:  What a great game.  Coach Corley has a great bunch of kids.  Both teams played hard and it could have gone either way, right down to the wire.
Curtis had a decent lead at half, but Bellevue jumped out with two quick  goals to start the second half.  Curtis got a couple of cushion goals in, then our goalie decided to make things more interesting by bobbling a stopped shot, dropping it between his feet and kicking it in...  Hey kids, don't try this at home, your coach will hate it.  Bellevue had a
chance in the last minute to tie it up but the Curtis long stick rose to the occasion and we eeeked out a one goal win.  Thanks Bellevue.

Bellevue View:  A light Bellevue team could not overcome a very slow start.  Hats off to Curtis who put the goals in when needed.  Another good clean game.

Eastside view:  Bellevue played with a "Never Say Die" attitude and pushed Eastside to the brink.    Eastside controlled the ball and the game in the first
half.  A big game from Brady Lynch and more of the same from Bayly paced Eastside to a 6-1 halftime score.  But Bellevue never quit and came back
with a huge 4-1 fourth quarter.  Bayly also had 2 asists bringing his season assist total to 10 and Frank Kaminski chipped in with 2 assists. Justin patterson saw his first action of the year in net and contributed with 3 saves.

Curtis View: To borrow a line from the guys at Overlake - "ugh!"  We lost the coin toss which meant our goalie played blind, looking right into the setting sun for the first quarter.  Lakeside dominated quarter with over 9 minutes on the offensive end of the field to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Swapped goals in the second to make it 8-1.  Curtis battled in the second half but was unable to get any shots past the Zaner.  Highlight of the game was Curtis' fourth line middies holding off Jorve and the boys for almost 5 minutes.  Lakeside gave us a very good lesson on what patience means on offense.  Great game guys.

Eastside 9 -Mercer Island 5

Eastside view: Big win for Eastside!  Both teams came out composed and ready for battle.  Teams traded goals in the first quarter and the period ended
2-2.  In the 2nd quarter, man up situations gave MI some oppurtunities and they took advantage pulling away to a 5-3 lead.  MI's ball control offense seamed to be taking its toll on Eastside, but Bayly and Sinkula sparked a huge momentum swing.  Picking up a loose ball near his own goal line, Bayly raced the length of the field on his own, outrunning, juking and dodging several on his way, to score with about a minute left in the half.  Then Sinkula won a big faceoff, Bayly collected the ball and called timeout.  With 25 seconds left in the half Eastside set up a
play and Bayly stuck one upper corner to tie the game seconds before half time.  That seemed to take the air out of MI as the third quarter proved huge.  Eastside came out fired up winning the groundballs 13-3 and outshooting MI 10-4.  The attack rode hard and Kaminski captilized on a! miscue.  Near the end of the third Bayly tried to score another last second goal, but was doubled quickly.  Keeping composure he found Sinkula who made a nice feed to Kaminski and Eastside scored with 2 seconds left.  In the 4th Eastside kept good posession and Sinkula iced
it with a man-up goal.  Well played MI we will see you again.  The defense pitched a second half shutout and Sinkula dominated the faceoffs!!!!!!!

MI View: Not a pretty game for MI. Were intimidated by Jordan Bayly, but the rest of the team did major damage. Another wake-up call for MI, but gave this
young team some good experience.

connected on two of the shots and Franklin's goalie saved eight of the shots from going into the goal.  Franklin High School's defense concentrated on breaking up plays and was able to shut out Kitsap in the fourth quarter.

Maple Valley 6 -  Bellevue  5

Maple Valley view: MV's first foray onto artificial turf showed as they struggled to a 6-5 overtime win over a talented and tough Bellevue squad.  MV took a 1 - 0 lead into the second quarter, but Bellevue dominated the 2nd quarter with 4 unanswered goals.  MV players looked confused and flustered for much of that quarter, and it showed with numerous personal fouls.  They regrouped in the 2nd half, however, and took a 5-4 goal lead with about 2 minutes remaining.  Bellevue came back with the tying goal with 45 seconds left.  Luckily, MV won the overtime faceoff and finished the game on Travis Cornelison's second goal of the night.  MV's Brian Johnson led all scorers with 3 goals, while Cornelison added 2 plus an assist.  Thank you Bellevue for a great game - you showed just how far
our stick skills still need to develop.

Bellevue View: Our first examples of balanced offense have started to yield results. Alas, some individual efforts by MV overcame an inspired 14 save effort by freshman goalkeeper CJ Switzer in his first varsity outing.  Good hitting, loud fans, an overtime finish, and even a stick check, this game had it all.

Vashon were good sports both before (by filling in on a last minute reschedule when Lakeside couldn't make today's appearance) and during  the game (keeping their composure and grit enabling Vashon's Bill Currie to slip past Kitsap's defenders and  score their goal).  Thanks again to

Eastside10 - Port Angeles 1

Eastside view: Sloppy Game.  Port Angeles' pressure defense confused Eastside as the  offense couldn't find a rhythm.  However, Jordan Bayly came up with a couple huge individual efforts notching 3 goals and 1 assist to pace Eastside out to a 6-1 lead.  The game turned ugly for a bit in the second quarter as an unidentified fan began chanting through a
megaphone.  The referees assessed a penalty to Eastside igniting a situation leading to Eastside being 3 men down for 2 minutes.  Port Angeles could not capitalize and the combination of Lynch and Bayly killed the rest of the penalty.  Eastside emptied the bench in the second half and great efforts were turned in by Lee Watterson and Marcus Ohno.  Kiel Lunsford finished with 7 saves.  final score 10-1.  Thanks  for coming out Port Angeles.  Apologies for the 2nd quarter mess.  Good
luck the rest of the way!

Vashon view: After a long trek to the hinterlands of Maple Valley we played a long, hard game against our former head coach, Vern Smith and his new team.

Eastside 13- Curtis 8

Eastside View: Offense controlled the ball in the first quarter and allowed Eastside to jump to a 5-0 lead.  Both teams played even for the next two quarters.
Curtis scored the final goal of the 3rd period to give themselves momentum, but a Bayly goal to start the 4th pushed the lead to 8 at 13-5 and Eastside coasted to the victory.  Bryce Andrews came back from an
injury to chip in with 2 goals and Win Bangasser filled in off the bench to win 10/14 faceoffs.  David Lyle provided a big spark patrolling the defense half.  Kiel Lunsford finished with 13 saves.

Curtis View:  But for that 5-0 first quarter this was a pretty well matched game. Jordan Bayly showed, once again, why his probably the best high school
lacrosse player in the State right now.  Mike Rice took the cage for the third time this season and had some nice saves and controlled clears. Curtis was missing a couple of middies and it showed when we rested the first line.  Picking ground balls off the turf proved to be the deciding factor as Curtis gave up ground balls two to one.  Thanks Eastside for a
great game.  Next time, our house.

Overlake View:      ugh! again!

Eastside View:  Sloppy game- too many penalties, lots of a confusion.  Eastside came out
sluggish and Overlake controled the first quarter.  But Kiel Lunsford played big in goal and the defense withstood 2 man down situatios.  1st quarter ended 0-0.  Eastside finally got the offense rolling sparked by a Kaminski goal on an Overlake miscue.  Bayly put in a couple right before halftime to stretch it to a 4-0 lead at the half.  Eastside scored the first of the 2nd half, but a penalty on Lunsford (goalie) allowed Overlake to pull 2 back on a non-releasable man up situation. But Eastside responded with 4 unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.  Defense played huge, Offense was sloppy.  Eastside will see Overlake again in May.

Kitsap View: Curtis' strong defense and having taken twice as many shots as Kitsap was the determining factor of this game.  B. Reimer celebrated his first game appearance by scoring two goals.  M. Walters also contributed an assist on top of his two goals..

Curtis View: Hats off to Joe Bates for keeping the Kitsap Lax Club alive.  These kids are for real and they are doing it with a player coach who is on attack. Nathan Hale View: Under horrible conditions NH Lax pulled off a hard fought victory over the Quakers. The mud slowed down our offense, but a great game by Ryan Garrett in goal and Ben Borkowski on defense kept Hale in the game. Even Snyder dominated at midfield, winning all his faces offs and

Eastside 10 - Kitsap 6

Eastside View: Eastside came out strong in the first quarter and jumped to a 4-2 lead on the backs of Bayly and Kaminski.  But, a mighty resiliant Kitsap
squad played smart and controlled the 2nd quarter confusing Eastside defense and notching some pretty back door goals.  After a 7-5 halftime
score, Kitsap held Eastside to only 3 second half goals.  However, Senior defenseman Sean Dwyer picked it up a notch in the second half and
help lead a defensive stand holding Kitsap to one second half goal. Final score 10-6.  Kitsap played very smart, very classy and very well- they will surprise some people.  They are a good squad.  #46 Bates and #9 Walters were very impressive.  For Eastside, Matt Sinkula dominated faceoffs 6/8 providing many easy possesions for Eastside.  Freshman Johnny Miller also provided a big spark off the bench coming in with a huge assist!

Kitsap View:  M. Walters and J. Bates also had an assist each. S. Hill and B. Wertheim both had one assist each.  Kitsap hung in there; but, Eastside's depth and talent were just too much to keep up with.  Eastside was a good host; the competition brought the level of Kitsap's play up perceptively; and the referees did an excellent job making our sojourn
to "The Eastside" a positive experience.

play.

Vashon  View:  This game was played during an unforgiving rainstorm, Vashon was out numbered two to one, and the defense held the capable and numerous offense of Angeles to four hard earned goals

Maple Valley 15 - Burien 2

Maple Valley View: Thank you Burien for a hard fought effort.  The score does not reflect
the fact that Burien never quit and was playing as hard in the fourth quarter as the first.  Attackmen Josh Staudt, Andy Scanlon, and Brian Johnson combined for 2 goals and 2 assists for MV while rookie middie Travis Cornelison scored his first hat trick.  The defense was led by senior co-captain Cody Kunning and Adam Running.

Mercer Island 24 - Curtis 3

Mercer Island View:

Curtis View:  Ouch.  That was a good old fashioned butt kicking.  Mercer Island did show a lot of class waiting until they had a 20 point lead before playing their second string guys.  Heck of an introduction for our new goalie.  Sure hope he doesn't decide to become a middie too.  This could turn in to a really long season...

Bainbridge A 19 - Overlake 5

Bainbridge A View: Bainbridge Island Boys Lacrosse got off to a flying start in the opening game of the season with a crushing defeat of Overlake School, 19-6. With goalie Mike Penn out sick, "B" team goalie Brad Tatum stepped up and held the Overlake team to just 6 goals, making a total of 12 saves. Tight defense by Ben Blakey, Peter Bonoff, and Trevor Kale clamped hard on the Overlake attack.  Midfield defense by Justin Hanseth and long stick midfield play by Byron Masi kept the Overlake midfield shooting from the outside. At the attack end, Bainbridge got off to a slow start, then started cranking up the rate of fire as they worked out the kinks of the first game of the season.  "We just needed to get settled in." said captain Peter Van derHoek.  The attack and midfield showed that there is a lot of goal-scoring ability in this team, and that any player on the field can get the ball in the net.  Aggressive play by Kelton Johnson led to scoring from his own stick and also a number of assists.   "This could be a tough year for us."  commented coach Dave Low.  " Coming off the State Championship again, we know that every team in the
league is trying to knock us down.  The team this year is pretty deep, and we can really run the midfields.  This game showed we can get goals from any number of players, which means the other teams will have to cover the whole team, not just one or two high-scorers.  We have some young players on this team that I have high expectations of."

Lakeside 8 - Maple Valley 3

Maple Valley View: With 22 rookies, Maple Valley travelled to Lakeside and were treated to a skill demonstration as the Lions beat the Vandals 8 to 3.  But for some outstanding goal keeping by senior Nate Holstein, the score could easily have been 18 to 3.  In 3 quarters of play, Nate made 17 saves on 20 shots on goal.  Freshman goalie Dustin Cavin played the third quarter and made 6 saves on 11 shots on goal.  Junior defenseman Adam Running led the team in takeaways with 3, while sophomore attachman Brian Johnson led the team in ground balls with 6.  All scoring came from the midfielders, with Isaac Pulkkinen, Travis Cornelison, and Matt Rohrbach each scoring unassisted goals.  The game was a great learning experience for Maple Valley;  they now see the level to which they must aspire. Thank you Lakeside for a great game - good luck in San Diego and with your season.

Hayashi connecting on two of his shots and BI #87 scoring with an assist from R. Lakeside 15-  Curtis 3

Lakeside View:

Curtis View: Season opener against a well coached class act team.  Hail storms and 35 degrees at game time made this thing anything but fun.  Curtis goalie
added this game to his jamboree experience and decided he would rather be a middie.  Would hate to think what would have happend if Jorve, Lewis and Kelly were eligible....  Thanks Lakeside
