Northwest Invitational March 13-15th, the High School Face-Off Classic: Interviews, Recaps and more!

Some of the most exciting College Lacrosse games of the early season comes from what has become the Face-Off Classic.  Few venues have offered so many talented teams the opportunity to play against one another in an exhibition format.  Mercer Island High School started an event four years ago now, that has become the equivalent of the NCAA face-off classic for high school teams in the Northwest.

In its fourth year, Mercer Island High School will host 13 teams in an invitational exhibition featuring some of the top high school boys' teams in the Northwest, the state champions from Nevada, and a state semifinalist from Tennessee. The invitational, starting Friday March 13th will run through Sunday the 15th fitting in a staggering 20 games to open the season. The invitational draws four defending state champions, and teams hailing from six states in the 13 attending this year. Teams participating in previous invitationals have included Cape Elizabeth from Maine, Lakeland/Panas from New York, Arapahoe from Colorado, and Alta from Utah.  This year's teams include: Bingham and Bountiful(UT) Lakeridge, West Linn and Lincoln(OR)Timberline (ID) Bonanza (NV) Montgomery Bell (TN) and top Washington teams, Mercer Island, Issaquah, Bainbridge, Skyline and Bellevue.
At the core of the Invitational's inception was Ian O'Hearn's concept of bringing people to Washington to expose them to the Northwest.  What started there, has become the largest "face-off classic" of its kind on the West Coast.
