Northshore Erupts 13-1 over San Juan
On Saturday afternoon, Northshore hosted the Dragons of San Juan, Island in an early season match-up of two new DII teams in the Skagit conference. San Juan, returning from a hiatus from Division II this year, and Northshore in its inaugural season as a program both look to win this first-time battle.
In the first quarter both teams showed good patience in the offensive zone getting quality looks at the cage, with North Shore finally getting one passed the San Juan keeper on a drive from up top from freshman #11 Taylor Wisman. North Shore second goal came a few minutes later from #17 Bowen Hadley from a charge from X. The first quarter ended with 2-0 North Shore.
North Shore won the first face-off of the second working the ball back to middy Tyler McManigal and assisting Tyler Wisman ripping a sidearm a shot to the back of the net from 12 yards out. San Juan takes a penalty giving North Shore it’s first EMO opportunity. Wisman drives to the cage and is denied by freshman goalie Calen Mehrer and San Juan is able to kill the penalty. A great ride by North Shore creates a fast break by Bowen Hadley who rips one on goal with McManigal picking up the rebound and banging one in. North shore kept up the offensive pressure scoring three more times with goals coming from three freshman Dylan Ruef, Jacob Field and Wisman for his hat trick. The first half draws to a close with North Shore up 7-0.
San Juan had problems clearing the ball in the second half due to North Shore’s ability on the ride that created many unforced errors. Freshman middy #2 Matt Thomas gets things started for north Shore in the second half by winning the face-off and dodging his way to the crease and rippling the net. In an unsettled situation #13 freshman Matt Maas picks up a loose ball and rips a shot from 15 yards out to the top shelf. Jake Dossett a freshman attackman, takes a pass from behind the cage and connects from the right wing. San Juan’s lone goal came from a charge to the crease finished by sophomore attackman Isaac Taylor. Senior middy Peter Irhie picks up the loose ball and bounces one in to finish the third quarter dominated by North Shore.
North Shore’s net minder created the two scoring opportunities in the forth quarter with great outlets resulting in fast breaks with Hadley and Justin Taylor finishing assisted goals. The game ends on the final whistle with North Shore on top 13-1.
