RECAPS Week 1

The season opener was a battle between annual powerhouse Huron and the up and coming team from Portland, Multnomah.

Huron started quickly scoring their 1st of 13 goals about 3 minutes into the game and never looked back. Nomah’s net started to look like a cheap brothel for Huron by the end of the game because just about everyone scored. Adding injury to insult, literally, Nomah lost their starting LSM for the season on a knee injury thanks to the dreaded turf monster.

Huron looked in mid-season form throughout the season opener, look for them to challenge at the end of the season. In Multnomah’s defense, they did travel light and do expect to be a different team at home which will be good since they finish the season with 6 straight home games. Nomah also hopes that the recent additions of University of Oregon graduates Danny Earnst and Justin Cooley along with league standout Jake Maslin will push them over the top this year.

Game 2 of the season took place on Sunday and was between Multnomah and Tentawon at 10:00 in the frickin’ morning.

Despite haven been beaten down the day before and having to endure watching their goalie dance with a transvestite the night before (no joke, Kyle danced with a She-Man), Nomah came out and jumped on Tentawon quickly.

Tentawon didn’t die off easily, the battled back to within in 2 but ended up falling 9-6. Nomah goalie Kyle Mecham played great and fought through a sprained ankle that he suffered the day before and earned his first win of the year.

There was no score or comment posted for Crease Monkeys and Eugene, therefore it’s a little tough for me to comment, sorry fellas.

Saturday March 11th brought the second weekend of the season.

Eugene and Bigfoot squared off down in Eugene on a cold wet Oregon day. Neither team made comments but I’ll guess Lee scored a couple and Peaches won a lot of face offs. Way to go Bigfoot!!

Other games this weekend say Tentawon dropped game 2 to Coopers 7-4 and Huron win their second game beating Crease Monkey B 9-2.

League News:
Hope everyone is off and running for the 2006 season.  Thought I would drop you all a note to get some consensus on a few items that I have left to clear up:

  1. Referee’s 2006 – Each team is responsible for provided/assigning two referees for their home games.  We are all finding it tougher and tougher as we compete against the A league, high school, middle school, and college games.  If one referee shows he will be on his own so be nice and realize he won’t see everything.  If no referee shows, the home team must supply one player to act as an official.  The visiting team may also provide one player(s) to be the second official.  Thoughts or concerns?
  2. League Dues 2006 – The league treasurer has still not issued the budget for 2006 nor the league bill.  What I can say is that the B league will not be paying for team insurance through the league as we have been forced to do it on our own, thanks Ethan.  The dues you will be responsible for will include insurance for the league officers and the playoffs.  I will have more information shortly.
  3. Players – I know my team is still looking for a few players to fill in some spots and I know there are other teams with their roster set.  That said I want to make sure we are all in agreement around two other “player streams”.
    1. Once a player plays in an A division game, they are no longer allowed to play for a B division team during that season.
    2. Current college players, during the college season, cannot play on a B team.  Once the PNCLL is over in April I am personally ok with teams recruiting players for next season so long as they and you realize they will not be playoff eligible.
Please respond to Aaron Koransky with your concerns or objections with the above three topics.  No response by Friday means a vote in the affirmative towards whatever the majority is at that point.  Hope you all have a safe and fun season and will surely see you soon
TOP PERFORMERS

The entire Huron Team

Kyle Mecham, G Multnomah. Kyle scored a Sh’im while in Seattle, way to make us proud.

GAMES TO WATCH NEXT WEEKEND
3/18/06 Multnomah @ Coopers … Look for Nomah to be a challenge for Coopers, they will be traveling with their full team.

3/19/06 Huron @ Bigfoot … This should be a shootout, it all depends on how well Huron can travel down to Portland.
