WHSBLA 2018 Semifinals Preview

Our final four for each bracket is set and our Private Division Championship is locked in with the O’Dea Fighting Irish against the Seattle Prep Panthers. We have two potential repeat championship performances out of our 3A and 4A Divisions and some new faces from the 1A/2A Division. The KingCo conference showing their muscles yet again with six KingCo teams participating in this year’s semifinal round. Story by Michael Thornbloom.

1A/2A Semifinals

The Bellingham Red Raiders were unable to repeat last year’s performance in a surprising upset from our GSHL team the Columbia River Chieftains last Saturday. With the way this bracket has turned out we could see a team outside of the greater Seattle area take home a trophy, as long as the Liberty Patriots can be stopped.

Here’s our 1A/2A Division Semifinals:

May 23rd

White River Hornets (Greater Spokane) @ Burlington-Edison Tigers (Northwest)

Columbia River Chieftains (GSHL) @ Liberty Patriots (KingCo)

3A Semifinals

We have a strong match-up this year in the 3A semifinals with an island battle between the Mercer Island Islanders and the Bainbridge Spartans as well as a top Wesco team the Stanwood Spartans to face the reigning champs the Bellevue Wolverines. Bainbridge is 3-3 this year against KingCo teams losing to clubs that didn’t even clinch a playoff berth. They are however 5-2 at home including their quarterfinal victory over the Lake Washington Kangaroos giving them a much needed edge against a tough Islander team. Stanwood faces a bit steeper of a climb against this prolific Bellevue team who has four All-American players on their squad and a perfect regular season record.

Here’s our 3A Division Semifinals:

Mercer Island Islanders (KingCo) @ Bainbridge Spartans (Metro)

Stanwood Spartans (Wesco) @ Bellevue Wolverines (KingCo)

4A Semifinals

We could see another repeat championship match-up out of this bracket with both Skyline and Eastlake proving to be top competitors in the 4A Division. The Tahoma Bears have been consistently strong in the Puget Sound conference bringing in their second season with 12 wins but have been unable to get past the tough KingCo teams falling to Issaquah last year in an early playoff round. The Woodinville Falcons are underdogs in their match-up against the top 4A KingCo team but their defense has carried them as far as it has with 27 goals allowed in their previous five games including one against Bellevue. Their last match-up with Eastlake was early in the season where they lost 9-3 but this Falcon team has grown since then and is ready to prove they can stand the heat.

Here’s our 4A Division Semifinals:

May 23rd

Skyline Spartans (KingCo) @ Tahoma Bears (Puget Sound)

Woodinville Falcons (KingCo) @ Eastlake Wolves (KingCo)
