Vashon's Favorite Son Goes Division I: Eric Davidheiser
Vashon Island's Eric Davidheiser, who currently is playing for the Hill School in Pennsylvania, is heading to Penn State next year. Walax caught up with Eric to get his thoughts on his decision and talk..but of course.. Lax!
Walax: When did you first start playing lacrosse?
Eric:5 grade
Walax: Favorite Lacrosse moment at Vashon?
Eric: Beating Mercer Island when I was a freshman.
Walax: Favorite Lax moment so far at the Hill School?
Eric:Losing to Loyola Blakefield by only 2 points in a 2 goal effort-it was my first game at the Hill School.
Walax: Why Penn State?
Eric:It was between PSU-Delaware-Hobart- PSU was my last visit..and the moment i stepped on campus i wanted to be there..i really liked the coaches esp Asst.coach VanAarsdale. I felt as though it was a perfect program and school for me.
Walax: Personal and Team Goals for this year?
Eric:Team goal this year would be..beating Lawrenceville(our rival)-Personal Goal this year would be getting all American in PA.
Walax: Since heading off the to Hill School in PA..What do you miss the most being away from home?
Eric:The west coast vibe- and my friends.
Walax: How has your game changed from your all state sophomore year you had at Vashon to now?
Eric: I would am more of a complete player by getting others around me better. My left hand is better and i have dedicated myself in the weight room to get bigger stronger and faster.
Walax: Is there a huge difference between the competition level in PA from the Northwest?
Eric:Yeah-back home in the Nwest..there will be only a couple big games..but here every game counts and you have to work hard everyday to keep your spot and to win.
Walax: Any advice for future stars in the Northwest that are trying to get recruited?
Eric:work hard. it pays off..start early and often contacting these coaches..you might not think it matters but it does.
Walax: Who is your Favorite Lacrosse Player in the game-past or present?
Eric:Matt Abbott of Syracuse -b/c he is a clearing machine and i want be just that.
