Snohomish Girls Clean House in Vegas, Go Undefeated!
Snohomish Girls Varsity Lacrosse has become more than a talented club here locally, they travel as well. As with most strong programs here in the Northwest, they play other schools in tournaments. Last weekend, they went down to the Best of the West Tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada and went undefeated, playing 6 games before winning the tournament championship.
The team participated in the Best of the West Lacrosse Tournament in Las Vegas, NV that was held from 2/29 to 3/2 at the Charles Kellog Sports Complex. The tournament was broken up into 3 pools of 5 teams in each pool. Snohomish played Bishop Gorman out of Nevada on 3/1. The final score of the game was Snohomish 20 Bishop Gorman 0, a perfect shut out for goalie Daniel Bergquist. Snohomish then played their second game against West Side, also out of Nevada. Dominating the game play, the final score of the game was Snohomish 13, West Side 2. The last game of the day on 3/1 pitted Snohomish Varsity against Xavier Prep of Arizona. Another domination, and a second shut out for the day after putting up 25 point to finish Snohomish 25 and Xavier 0.
The second day of the tournament matched Snohomish with the current Utah State Champion, Park City. This was an intense game and both teams played very well. Snohomish wound up with the victory, beating Park City 9 to 6. Having won their pool, Snohomish advanced to the Semi-final game.
The semi-final game of the tournament was Snohomish Vs Bonanza, NV. Snohomish controlled the tempo of the game and beat Bonanza 11 to 1. This semi-final win propelled Snohomish to the Championship game where they would play the other bracket winner, Murray, UT. The championship game was a back and forth battle with the lead and momentum changing hands several time. In the end Snohomish beat Murray 8 to 4, winning the tourney, and the title, Best in the West.
The girls were presented a team trophy by the tournament director for winning the girls High School Division. Snohomish was the only undefeated team in the tournament, recording 2 shut outs, 86 goals scored and only allowed 12 in 6 games. The top scorers for the team were: Sayre Creighton 14 goals, Meaghan Hess 14 goals and Mikala Trott 12 goals. Goalie Daniel Bergquist was a dominant force in every game and was the defensive team MVP. The team's midfielders all contributed to the wins with their defensive and offensive skills, making it a team win and a great tournament to start the season in the right mindset!
