Skyline slides past Seatttle Prep
This evening’s division I battle took place on the home turf of the Spartans while the visiting Panthers donned the away blue on a very rainy, very cold night. The Skyline Spartans would use an early 4-0 spurt to propel themselves into victory using five different goals on a balanced offense to solidify the victory.
With the help of face-off man Spencer Matches, the Spartans would see two early goals. The first from Calvin Wiley, who would score on an uncontested time and room shot from up top to open the game. Shortly followed would be Ethan Thomas cutting inside from Attackmen Brennan West, 2-0 Skyline. Prep would eventually see possession time but fail to convert as the first 5 minutes went by. Suddenly it was déjà vu as Wiley would score his second of the night unassisted shortly followed by Ethan Thomas again found by West giving Skyline a 4-0 lead.
Prep would eventually get on the board as the go to player Arthur Stacey would get his first of the night with about 5 minutes left in the quarter. After the ensuing possession David Shoettler for Seattle prep would give Prep their first back to back goals of the night bringing the panthers to within 2 (4-2).
The second quarter would turn into the Spencer matches show as the Spartan Middie along with face-offs, would tally 1 goal and 2 assists unofficially all in the second quarter. First he would find Wiley for his third of the night, then score solo off a great right handed shot sweeping across the middle then find Ethan Thomas inside pushing Skylines lead to 7-2.
Most of Preps offense in the first quarter came off scrambled situations and one fast break goal which they were able to capitalize off of. In the second, they saw even fewer opportunities and could not get anything rolling until Arthur Stacey scored his second of the night and Prep would head into half time down 7-3.
The third quarter would open up with Skyline controlling the first 4 minutes of possession time only to see Prep Goalie Jack Mauer make three great saves in a row. Seattle Prep would then clear the ball turning the possession into a goal when Gabe Piacentini would find Stacey again inside on a nice feed and shot making the game 7-4.
Each team would then exchange goals, Skylines Ethan Thomas and Preps David Shoettler would score respectively as the panthers just could not break the 3 goal lead barrier. Coach Dan Mirsky’ s team would go man-up for the final 2 minutes of the third quarter but fail to convert on chances to cut the Spartans lead.
The final period would see the pace of the game slow down and the play begins to get progressively sloppier. Preps lone threat Arthur Stacey would become a non factor rarely seeing the ball and seldom making a move to the cage even though he did tally one late point for the visiting team. Skyline would score twice in the final period as Wiley would score his Fourth goal unofficially and #18 Danny Christianson would get on the board with just under 4 minutes left in the game. Final Score 10-6 Skyline over Seattle Prep.
